Anyone play emulators on their Android tablet or phone

Post by cloudrat7 »

I have an android tablet and ive recently started to use emulators on it, so far the nes, gba, sega genesis and mame seem to work pretty good on my tablet. Is this the new frontier in gaming? everything portable and on the go?

Until some wizard figures out how to make controls less intrusive and finicky, I'd be reluctant. I've an extremely hard time playing anything other than turn-based RPGs,
and even that has its snafus, such as easy mispresses. D'you not find it really uncomfortable to hold a tablet in a decent gaming position?

It's not the perfect solution, but it's damn close: http://www.icontrolpad.com

I picked one of these up a few weeks ago, and it's awesome. It gives me actual controls, that work very well with my phone and tablet, and with my phone, I can even connect the two for proper portability. It's nothing less than awesome.

I play GBA through gameboid on my EVO a lot. I mostly do RPGs or anything that doesn't need razor sharp reflexes and controls lol. It really helps with my Fire Emblem cravings, which is perfect for playing on the phone.

The best thing about GBA on the phone is the aspect ratio. GBA fits the screen almost perfectly where as old consoles with a 4:3 ratio can't maximize the screen or end up getting stretched. However, games that are in 4:3 do offer you extra space on the side of the screen for touchscreen controls so your fingers don't get in the way of the action as much....

To each their own I suppose!

funny thing, 90% of the time i play gba on my android tablet, im going thru the rpgs one by one, very easy to control. i configure it to portrait mode because you can see the whole image screen with the controls on the bottom. i have a 7 inch screen and the battery life is great, i dont even need to ever install game apps, i have about 2000 nes, genesis, gba and mame roms.. its insane. considering how back in the day i purchased so many of these games for every console.

I posted some thoughts on Android emulation in the Android Gaming topic. My phone plays most console systems quite well.

As far as I can tell, the cell phone I want to get isn't compatible with the iControlPad. :(

To be honest, thats the main issue with android phones and tablets, there are so many different types and cpu speeds and so forth i think it's impossible to have all these emulators and peripherals to work on everything. ive had a few phones and also tablets and i finally got one that plays all the emulators plus mame to work with no issues, It's definitely a crapshoot.

Games are not playable on a tablet. Now, they are very playable on Android Consoles, which are plentiful now.

What kind of phone do you have? Assuming it's an Android phone, then it should be compatible. The only incompatibility is with the original side holder bits for the controller, but they have a universal holder which works just fine, and is what I use with my Droid 2.
