Sega Saturn VGA

Post by davidsdiego »

Hello All,

Is there an equivalent of the DC VGA Box for the Saturn? Not in regards to video quality; however, I wanted to use a VGA connection. From what I read online is S-video (in the US) is the way to go.

I have an old Sony LCD monitor and it only has VGA and I wanted to connect it to a future Saturn. I'd appreciate any help!

Thanks,
David

I actually don't think there is. I've looked into it too and while the SAturn is capable of VGA none of the games have code in them to utilize it so it would be worthless. But I may be wrong

It's a Hz thing. You can get SCART/RGB out of the Saturn but will need a device to upscan or convert to VGA (or component). XRGB-2 comes to mind, but it sounds like it might be out of the budget for you since you're using an "old Sony LCD".

There are some composite/svid -> VGA boxes but the image quality suffers a lot. Google it, should be 40-50 bucks.

Not out of budget, although my ancient 15" Sony LCD monitor is perfect for what I wanted. I'm currently using it to play my Dreamcast. I guess I might consider upgrading to a TV or monitor that has an S-video.

Thanks!

Have you tried a composite/svid -> VGA box with a Saturn? It seems no one has shared their experience online...

The more adapters and converters are used, the more lag there will be between doing something and it appearing on the screen. Converting a lesser image format to a better one is pretty much only useful if you have no other way to display that image on your available device. You can't turn crap into gold. You can polish it, but it will give you lag that messes up the play experience.

Have you tried it with a VGA converter box, connected to an LCD VGA monitor?
