Question about faulty SNES carts
Question about faulty SNES carts
I recently picked up a Link to the Past cart and everything seems to work fine except the world map is glitchy. It's hard to explain but it looks like sections of the map are in the wrong place. The cart itself is in mint and the connector looks brand new. Do you think this issue could be fixed by cleaning it or am I just screwed?

Re: Question about faulty SNES carts
Dunno. Just clean it and see! The contacts on your console might need some cleaning too.

Re: Question about faulty SNES carts
The world map uses mode 7. If other games with mode 7 stuff works ok, then that at least limits it to the cart. I'm not sure if one dirty pin could just affect the mode 7 map like that when the rest is fine, or if it means that portion of graphic memory is corrupted on the cart. I'd clean the cart and see how it goes. Search and there are quite a few threads (with some disagreements) on how to do this.

Re: Question about faulty SNES carts
It seems to have something to do with mode 7. I'm getting the same thing with title screen for Crono Trigger and the 2nd boss in Axelay.

Re: Question about faulty SNES carts
Maybe your cart slot needs cleaning if there are pins dedicated to mode 7 data and use. I'm not sure though. Hopefully that and not damage to an actual chip in your system.

Re: Question about faulty SNES carts
I've never cleaned it and it's been either sitting in an entertainment center or a closet for twenty years collecting dust so cleaning it is definitely worth a shot. Thanks for the help.

Use a piece of white t-shirt wrapped around a old atm card when you clean it that should tell you if it is dirty or not.

Re: Question about faulty SNES carts
There is a cleaning thread in the guides section. Cart slots has a blurb in there. You don't want to use water.django333 wrote:Dry tshirt? I heard 50/50 alchohol and water.

Re: Question about faulty SNES carts
I took it apart and cleaned but I'm still having the same issue. Is there anything else I can try?
