Sega Saturn games

Post by Godot102 »

So I just won a Sega saturn on ebay and I'm looking for some games to buy and I gotta say, the value of most games have really gone up :( . I don't ever recall the first panzer dragoon being worth ~$30. For the longest time, you could get it for ~$15 if not less. Not to mention it seems like there are a lot less copies of Saturn games floating around ebay than say, a year ago. Has anyone else noticed this?

Yup, Saturn game prices have gradually been going up for years now. From my experiences at least.

30 bucks sounds like a lot for the first Panzer Dragoon though. The PAL version can usually be gotten for about £10-15 here in the UK, which is quite a bit less than that.

Anyways, NiGHTS is still fairly cheap. Make sure you pick that up asap! Christmas NiGHTS and a 3D controller too. Check out some of Racketboy's articles on the console (especially the cheapest games worth owning). If you're into fighters, Street Fighter Alpha 2 and X-men Children of the Atom can be had quite cheap. Also, make sure you buy an Action Replay 4in1 cart, as that'll allow you to play imports. Japan not only had loads of awesome exclusives, but also the games are generally more common and therefore cheaper, if you don't mind importing.

Finally, keep an eye out in pawn shops, charity shops, retro games shops, Ebay listings, anywhere really, and you'll be sure to find some bargains if you're patient. I've even got some awesome deals on Ebay just by being lucky and keeping an eye out. I got a mint copy of Dragon Force for £32 last year, and most biddings on that game end at like £50-80 mark in that condition.

Yea I've noticed it. I've gotten to the point that I'm just going to mod one of my saturns and only collect jpn games. The prices are ridiculous right now and I don't really think they will be going down anytime soon. Plus I'd rather be collecting something I feel is more unique when it would be possible for me to play the back ups on the hardware.

If you've got the cash though, many of the games are worth it. I've been fairly patient with my collecting to be fair though. I've had my Saturn for about 10 years now and I only have about 35 games. You have to see it as collecting quality, not quantity imo. I feel I have some of my favourite games on the Saturn (Panzer Dragoon Saga, NiGHTS, Shining Force III, Guardian Heroes, Grandia, Burning Rangers, Fighters Megamix, X-men Children of the Atom etc), even if I don't have as many games on it as I do on some of my other consoles.

Panzer Dragoon Saga cost me £80 (Actually quite cheap compared to how much it often goes for on Ebay) and I've never once looked back and thought "wow that was stupid, I really regret that."

Don't just look at the current Buy It Now prices... Complete listings of Panzer Dragoon go for $20 all the time. Saturn prices have definitely spiked a bit recently, but when you bought a Saturn you signed up for the waiting game too. Generally, the best time to find deals isn't going to be mid-afternoon on the weekend.

High and rising prices come with buying an underappreciated console; those of us who do see how great the Saturn is snatch up the small supply of games quickly and don't like letting go of them, lol.

You have a point. I plan on purchasing Nights and Puzzle Fighter real soon as they seems to be some of the few really good games that are still fairly affordable. I also plan on hitting up Play n trade this week to see if they have any good games/accessories.

you're gonna find more sports games. Those are always plentiful.

maybe you'll get lucky and get some good games out there. Its still possible.

disc only is an option if you dont really care for the boxes.

About 80% of my saturn games are disc only.

I have about 105 saturn games right now. Most of my collection was started back in the early 2000's.

I dont think I want to spend more money on them now just to have the box. I'm totally happy just having the disc only.

But any chance you should get. Buy some saturn games. The cheaper the better.

I dont mind disc only on it either. SO many of those case have been tossed. Also, pick up those dollar sports games as they make great replacement cases for the games that you may have complete.
