The whole thing about regions and region-specific stuff in the internet age really baffles me. Nintendo really seems to suck in this area this generation. As long as I'm paying I should be able to download Japanese Virtual Console games right? Nope!
At least with Sony and the PS3 you can easily make seperate accounts for other regions without any issues really. Get all of the foreign stuff you like! Not to mention the console itself is region-free for PS3 games.

Are you sure it is that easy to make foreign accounts from within the US?
From what I heard about it on cheapassgamer podcast, at least on the Xbox360, I thought it to be a pain in the ass.

Yes, I have three PSN accounts right now. US, Japan, and Hong Kong. It was no problem at all signing up and there are tutorials online if you can't read Japanese. With a Hong Kong account you can get the interface and such in English. Mind you I have not tried buying anything on any of them, but it I imagine it shouldn't be difficult if they all accept credit cards.
I don't have a 360 so can't comment on that.

Yeah I hear ya...
With promos and club stuff;
NOA does near jack.
NOE does very little and probably only because they take forever with games.
NCL does it all because (my presumtion here) it wants to create loyalty with cool items for game purchases.
I don't know if any of you know this but (I learned it after joining Club Nintendo), the amount of points you get for your game purchases depends on when you buy the game/system. For example, I bought a new DS game and got 25 (or 30) points and then I got and older game (like from 4~5 months ago) and I only got 10 points.
Trivial? Perhaps. Interesting? Your milage may vary.
