We all play fighting games, but how do you play them with a controler?
Not on a joystick but on an actual controller!
with your thumb over all four/six buttons?
or with your fingers (right hand) over the buttons?
Did you learn one way at first and switch to another? Did you enjoy it more on an arcade or do you prefer a classic d pad?
For me it depends on the Fighting game, But mostly I play with all my fingers on the righthand side. tapping on the pad. My left hand is normal and I use my thumb for movement, but my index finger and ring finger do more. I rarely use the shoulder buttons.
I play this way especially with 3D fighters aka Tekken and Soul Calibur. Depending on my mood or who I'm playing aganst,on a 2D fighter, I just use my thumbs.
In your personal opinion do you think theres an advantage over which way its played? Does one have an advantage with a regular joystick over the d-pad?
Some say thats the best way to play since it mimics the orginal arcade. But for some the only way they've ever played is on the dpad?
Feel free to quarter circle and or counter what i've just said.

I use both to combo easier in fightin games and reduce the chance of sore thumb.

Re: thumbs or index fingers?
Depends on the fighting game. In something like Street Fighter I just use my thumbs, but in the Tekken series where I often have to hit two buttons at once I tend to use my thumb and index finger at the same time, which isn't always especially comfy, but I'm used to it. That's how I play Tony Hawks too.

Well, it's kind of hard to use an analogue stick like a joystick.

I use an arcade stick and avoid that whole mess. ^_^
Re: thumbs or index fingers?
I used to use control pads before I used sticks. I got terrible blisters on my thumbs playing Guilty Gear, SSFIIT, etc. Ever since I started using Arcade sticks I've been playing better and in a lot less pain.

I like to use my thumb for the d-pad/joystick, and my index fingers for the buttons. I find it very efficient.

Re: thumbs or index fingers?
I voted joystick, but my secret vote would have been boobies
Re: thumbs or index fingers?
I use my thumbs when I'm lazy and don't pull out a pad. When I feel like using a pad I use a thumb and and index or just use fingers like an arcade sick. I voted boobies because they're great and this thread needs some ( . )( . ) bam there we go.
On a side note when I was a kid and my dad played games on our nes he would use his middle finger and index on the a and b buttons and it always struck me as weird.
And when I play dark/demon souls have my thumbs on the nubs my index on circle and my middle finger on a trigger. I've actually had to take a break since my index finger is injured at the first joint. To much pressure against it going a way the finger isn't supposed to go.
