Ryan's corner 4/27/12

Post by RyaNtheSlayA »

So, I'm slowly building up a collection again. Right now I have just a few titles for each system I own, but I thought I'd share. I guess I'm more interested in bragging about my HDCRT now that I've got a nice TV stand to go with it.

So the 34XBR960.The guy I bought it from was an older man. He was the original owner (has the receipt from late 2005), and hadn't used it since 2008 when he bought a plasma, and it shows. There's no sign of use. The TV is a whopping 200lbs but has an incredible picture, and is basically colour accurate with just a few easily modified tweaks (all through the user menu no less!). SD and HD content both look fantastic on it. CRTs really still can't be beat for some things like black levels and colour accuracy. The interlacing isn't actually noticeable (except for some very specific situations) unlike a lot of SDTVs I've seen. Fine text of course suffers, but movies and games look fantastic.

I'm really looking forward to building up a good selection of Genesis titles. It's a system that I've really loved since I was a child, but I've never had a real great library for it. The Saturn is an old love of mine and I've played most of what I've wanted to on it, but there are a few remaining biggies I want to smash out, Shining Force III being the most notable example. The PS1 is a come and go interest for me. I had one as a kid so some games I loved seem noticeably dull at this point. On the other hand, there are some titles I had the chance to, but never played as a kid that I really want to get, plus plenty of new titles. The library of that system is just so damn expansive.

So that's it. Not much to look at. However, I want to use this thread to sort of catalog good finds and maybe update it about once a month with whatever new I've acquired. I'm not looking to aquire tons of titles and "hardcore" collect anything. I just want to find unique and great titles that I'm proud to share and have on my shelf. :)

I want to finally make my collecting fun.

Nice corner! Your collection is humble yet fantastical. I too have a 960. I'll take it over my 46" LCD any day.
