SOLVED: Which PS2 to PS3 controller adapter to get ?

Post by Ziggy »

edit: I bought the Mayflash adapter and it works on my PS3 Slim with current firmware. http://www.racketboy.com/forum/viewtopi ... 52#p606852

You know, I forgot that I own this

Can some one recommend a good PS2-PS3 controller adapter ? :D

Noise said he uses the SmartJoy, but I can't find it for sale any where (besides the UK link).

There's a ton of them on Amazon, but since they range from $4-16 I'm a little hesitant. Does any one own and use one that they can recommend to me?

Old post below...
I'm talking about controller pads, not arcade sticks. What is the best controller for playing Street Fighter on the PS3 ?

I've always thought the Mad Catz FightPad looked pretty good, but now that I'm seriously considering buying one I've read a few reviews. There's a lot of reviews on Amazon that say they break down way too fast (D-Pad problems, wireless connection problems). Are they any good, or do they suck?

Other than the FightPad and arcade sticks (an obviously the regular old PS3 controller) what are my options?

I've read that USB Saturn pads are good to use. But I've also read that the market is flooded right now with a ton of low quality ones that should be avoided. How can I tell which is a good one to get?

I already own a Saturn pad, so it'd be nice if I could just use it with an adapter of some kind. I've read that the MayFlash adapters work, but other sources say they have problems. Does any one have the MayFlash adapter? Do they work with the PS3? I'm looking at this one right now, but I wanna make sure it works before I buy it.

Are there any other good options that I don't know of ?

Thanks !

pfft. I love mine, and I use it all the time. It's bigger than the SF anniversary pads for PS2, which I like -- though it is lighter. But very comfy, and I like the feel of the d-pad. There's also a newer wired model that came out with SFxT graphics. I plan to get one of these as well as a backup. So yeah. I recommend the MadCtaz.

Another option is the PDP Versus pad, which lisalover reviewed positively for YSG and you can find at Gamestop for $15 clearance right now. (Clicky dpad like a NGPC).

IDK, there's so many negative reviews about the Mad Catz FightPad on Amazon, kinda scares me.

Yeah, the PDP looks nice. So does the Hori pad...

I can only tell you my own experience. Which has been good. And I've used it on a weekly basis for over a year.

I think the Hori is a bad idea for fighting games. Look at that dpad. Why a + for fighting games?

Definitely go with the PDP Pad, I got one although, the buttons and dpad are clicky, they feel responsive and have a very nice feel to them. Great for its price and the one I would get if I were you.

i use to have a Hori Fighting Commander 3 Pro. didn't click with me so i sold it. to be honest, i feel very comfortable with the official PS3 controllers, which is not very common and surprised a lot of people i play with (SSF4).

Hmm where was that when I was looking for an adapter? lol having Saturn AND PS2 options would be nice since I have a ton of PS controllers.

I have a saturn adapter from Raphnet http://www.raphnet-tech.com/products.ph ... y=Adapters

What I love about it (no clue if the mayflash can do this) is that it fully supports all the analog features of a saturn analog pad (analog joystick AND analog triggers)

Well I have the pdp and I bought sevins hori and I prefer the hori. I prefer a d pad for my fighting games and the hori just feels like it's high quality to me while the pdp feels to light for me. Do you prefer a d pad then I would suggest the hori it really is great. But you can probably find the pdp for fairly cheap I got mine from Gamestop for 15 bucks after a thread noise had to let everyone know.

I think my favorite option is the MayFlash adapter, but that's IF it works with the PS3. I like it because I can use a controller that I already own, and I'll also be able to use SS, N64 and PS controllers on my PC, so that's an added bonus.

Does any one have this MayFlash adapter? I'd hate to buy it then find out it doesn't work with the PS3.
