R-Type DX battery?

Can anyone who has R-Type DX tell me if it has a battery, and if so, what it is supposed to save? I just picked up a cart-only copy, and I can't find much info on it online.

Relatively few Game Boy/Color games featured battery-backed RAM.

I opened mine to clean it a while ago. No battery.

Just checked mine tells you game statistics only and i suck at this game.
