SEGA Rally Championship 1995 (arcade) deserves an HD release

Post by eastside »

Outside of Youtube comments I don't see much of a demand for a digital HD rerelease of the original arcade Sega Rally?

Sega's Daytona USA HD port was better than arcade perfect and the port team responsible for it should put their talents to work on translating other Model 2 and 3 racers.

SEGA Rally Championship 1995 is chronologically next after Daytona USA. After Sega Rally, Daytona USA 2 (which has been hinted to me by a Sega forum mod for release) and Scud Race should follow.

It would make a lot of sense to make these PC/Steam releases as well as they are doing with the masterful looking port of Jet Set Radio.

The original arcade Sega Rally Championship 1995 is still one of the most heavily downloaded classic arcade roms and PC gamers would gladly snatch up a digital download that would support their favorite steering wheel.

Online multiplayer is a given.

Gameplay fun, handling and physics-wise, SEGA Rally Championship 1995 still holds up a great and entertaining single and multiplayer arcade gaming experience better than any other version of SEGA Rally that has been released since then, and thus reserving of an HD rerelease.

Sega Rally Online Arcade for PSN/XBLA was released about a year ago. Is this the game you're referencing?

no.

I'm talking about the original arcade game from 1995. Sega Rally Online Arcade is a stripped down version of Sega Rally Revo - a far inferior gameplay experience by an outsourced developer.

The original Sega Rally rocks. I remember when I first saw it running on a Saturn, I was sold there and then.

Scud Race would be cool as I don't think it ever got ported anywhere, and its a cool game with the same drifty physics :)

As Guardian Heroes and Daytona USA have already seen an HD release, a SEGA Rally along with a NiGHTS HD release are needed to digitize the legacy of major Saturn releases.

I hope Sega can deliver this before this generation comes to an end.

Sega Rally and NiGHTS would be very simple ports of relatively short games that would have a wide audience appeal to both nostalgic fans and newer generations.

A USB version of the NiGHTS analog controller for PC and PS3 would be a nice added touch.

I love the original Sega Rally. I'd love an HD release with some extra tracks, including the hidden on the Saturn version.

I just realized something from the poster. During its heyday, Sega seems to be the company that targets hardware enthusiasts. They're the ones who include hardware related figures in their promo kits and marketing spiels.

Maybe I'm just not looking in the right places, but you never saw Nintendo brag about their consoles' ability to process blasts, or the amount of polygons in their games.

I think it's pretty much Nintendo's MO not to compete through hardware. The last time they bragged about their specs was with the N64, and while it's not a commercial failure, it didn't fare too well against the competition.

I agree with the poster, but I have this
Image
An arcade perfect port with the exact same resolution as the arcade game.
This game supports 480p, so play it with a component cable. It´s Segariffic
It was bundled with Sega Rally 2006 for the ps2. Japan only
Optimizing PS2 games 480p (progressive) and 240p gsm hdtv
