Favorite Sega memory/purchase

For me, my favorite SEGA systems, is (of course) the Dreamcast.
I remember first hearing about the system and seeing it being played at an Electronic Boutique. I saw Sonic Adventure and my jaw dropped... I could not believe my eyes and wanted this system so badly... My brother, also being a huge fan of SEGA, wanted it as well. We were dying to play it.

I remember at the time, we were very broke, and my brother, taking care of both of us... Was barely making payment for the bills. I was 16, he was 28.

He told me he would try as hard as he could to get the system, but when it came down to Christmas day he informed me that ha just couldn't afford it and I had 4 wrapped video games sitting under the tree.

Sure, I was disappointed, but I loved my brother and respected his hard worked... And was happy to get something for Christmas.

He then told me to get cleaned up, showered, etc, for dinner so after we could open our presents. I cleaned up and walked out... Lo and behold was a beautiful box, with a few wrapped games sitting in front of it. My heart dropped and I looked to my brother for permission to be excited. He laughed and smirked at me, and told me to "open it already."

I tore the paper off quicker than I had with anything in my life, and was speechless.
Kind of like the clouds parting and angels descending from the heavens, except it was a dreamcast.
By the time reality hit me again, I jumped up and down, screaming, forgot to breathe, screamed some more, and then went on to play a marathon of Resident Evil: Code Veronica, Sonic Adventure, and Soul Calibur.

Thus, the love for my favorite system sprouted, for the Dreamcast.

How about you? Any great memories/purchases/raging nostalgia with SEGA related games/system? Please share.

My father was quite the gamer when I was young. He hated sega.he was a genesis fan and fell for the sega Cd/32X hype. He bought a playstation and never looked back, like most people. In 99 I laughed openly about supporters of the dreamcast. It was only years later when I picked up a Saturn that I discovered my love for sega. I still don't understand the dreamcast love, since most of its best games have been ported elsewhere. My heart still belongs to the playstation. Just so dammed many games.

My favorites also happen to be the best Sega related deals that I've found:

-32x unit for $10 at a little game store
-Boxed Model 2 Genesis for $15 at Goodwill
-House of the Dead for the Saturn, CIB on Amazon for $35 (this was while they were selling for at least $75 all day long on ebay, and they still are)

I remember when I got my Genesis when I was like 5 years old. I played it quite a bit. I guess my favorite memory was beating Sonic 3 & Knuckles. Doomsday Zone was so rad. 8)

Not so favorite memory...
Saturn bought within the release frame with Panzer Dragoon @ toys r us,returned the next day because when leaving the sales clerk was insisting I should of got the Playstation..And then I listened.

Year and half ago or so-Buying a Saturn and 80 games mint and complete for hundreds less than what the seller wanted..New understanding for one of my favorite retro consoles.

Also got the same seller to crumble on their Dreamcast collection..They wanted $1200,I waited 6 months and offered $100,yup
If you can see the future while remembering the past, you may just have control of the present.

Probably Picking up Sega Consoles when they were cheap. When Sega announced that they were out of the console business, my dad and I drove to Circuit City in Dale City, VA--we definitely loaded up on some of the classics.

However, I think my favorite moment is still the moment I purchased Phantasy Star Online. I spent all the time setting up the dial-up connection, configuring my dreamcast to get it online. The first time I connected to the servers and did my first run through of the game, I was hooked. This was probably my defining Dreamcast moment. Nothing really has replicated that feel. I am probably guessing a lot of you had the same feeling.

@dreamcast4ever83, your brother seems like a wonderful and loving person. I have great respect for people like him.

The first sega console i actually owned was a Sega Saturn, sadly it was overshadowed by my N64 and PSX which aquired most of my time then.

I've been following the SEGA DC ever sinced it was announced, seeing the news coverage of Sonic and Shenmue and the many possibility of the machine, i was thrilled and couldnt wait to get my hands on it.

Then came 9-9-99, it was my youngest brother bday and in tradition my parents would buy us a new gaming console if we didnt own it already. Yea i love my parents :D
I remember buying it at EB with just one game and a demo disk. The game we picked out of course was Sonic Adventure and boy did that game exceed our expectation. We didnt own any high end pc or what not and the graphics we saw on the DC just blew us away, It was like the arcades if not better in our room.

Kinda embarassing now, but i remember i was so impressed with the graphics so much that i told my neighbors who was much older than me to buy one. Since he love sports game i told him how realistic the 2K sports line was, even going into detail how you could zoom into the football and actually look like a real football.

All said and done, i really enjoyed the time i had with the dreamcast and never in millions year would i expect it to fall from grace in such a short period of time. Even though it short the games that came out for that console still impress to this day.
