Best way to play phantasy star online w/o a dc bba

One of the most unfortunate design decisions is that you must play the game offline to unlock the higher levels for online play. If you never play offline, every time you start a game online, you start at level 1. It was ridiculous when my friend and I tried to play the game co-op. We had to literally start over every game session.

The server was taken down for the xbox version, and you can't play it offline without first going online with it (or by downloading some obscure xbox scene patch for it).

Memories are the most important aspect in gaming to me. That said, very little of the offline mode lives on in the recesses of my brain.

You can still connect to private servers via dial-up on the DC version, though I wouldn't recommend it. BB is by far the easiest version to get up and running online.

Does anyone here in the community own the GC version? I have it and a BBA, and the ASCII controller--I'd love to get rolling with a few people if anyone is ever interested.

I have the gamecube version and a bba. Dont play it at the moment but one day I'd like to jump on again.

I played a character all the way to level 180 without ever going online. If you have someone to play local co-op woth (GC version is the only one that offers this iirc), then the game is a blast.

If you can manage to snag the Episode 1 & 2 PLUS, then you can get access to a few online-only areas offline.

Also, like has been mentioned, you can play online on the pc. The game is still very active, and there is new fan-made content.

well im buying a dreamcast broadband adapter from a fellow member and hopefully pso v1 and v2 dreamcast from another member so when i get the bba how do i get onto a private server? also do i need a keyboard and mouse?

Is there a version that's significantly better/more active than the others? I'm assuming that the PC version is the best in terms of price/userbase/community content.
