Are all games rehashes now days?

Post by env963 »

Just browsing amazon.com, looking at the new vita games. All I see are rehashes of the same games over and over. Wipeout... again? Uncharted....again (dont get me wrong, i love uncharted!) resistance etc etc...

Not sure what is worse, no used games next Gen or all these rehashes of the same game...

I don't think *all* of them are, but it sure feels like it sometimes. Dark Souls was an amazing fresh take on action RPG's I think.

The good news (for me anyways) is there is enought games in my backlog, along with all of the amazing last-gen and pre last-gen games, that if another good game never came out, I could still play the rest of my days enjoying games that have already been released.

Dissappointed that i think i only saw 2 titles that aren't a rehash or on another system.

Im personally getting burned out here. Would like to see less sequels and more original IP's, but i guess if people keep buying the sequels, they are't going to stop...

For the record, most systems don't launch with a particularly great lineup these days. It usually takes 6 months to a year for the classics to show up.

The most recent launches I can think of that had killer apps were the oXbox (Halo) and the Wii (Twilight Princess).

A rehash is acceptable to me if it's on an incredibly high level of quality and surpasses what it's rehashing. Dark Souls did implement several fresh mutliplayer ideas though.

As for the topic, yeah, very few fresh ideas out there. I'm of the opinion gamers themselves are at fault though for making rehashes extremely profitable for developers and publishers and fueling the whole thing in general. Why bother with original or risky ideas when you can just release pretty much the same game every year and break sales records?

God, what's with all of the grognardy "EVERYTHING NEW SUCKS!" threads popping up recently? I realize where I am, but the hatred of anything remotely modern is getting pretty intense.

I am with you man, I just like good fun games new or old, new ip or sequel... if gamers get tired of the sequels the series usually dies on its own i.e. guitar hero or tony hawk. If they keep selling then that means the consumer wants more. These sequels and rehashes help allow companies to take risks with new ip. They bankroll the risks and failures.

Just getting bored with the trend... to much of the same crap! Call of duty 412, Resistance 143, Halo 932, Final Fantasy 321. Same crap again and again..

I can't wait till my copy of xenoblade chronicles comes in the mail. I am hoping trying something new and refreshing and hopefully its not too hard. Im not really a huge RPG gamer, i just beat parasite eve and the last RPG before that was Final fantasy X, about 7 years ago.
