Something that seems to be ignored in the used games debate

Post by BoringSupreez »

Buying used games is good for the environment! The more people buy used games, the fewer new copies that have to be made, and so there are fewer trees cut down, less energy used, and less plastic to sit in a landfill for 1000 years.

Note that I do not care at all about the environment or global warming. I just realized that I'd never heard this argument put forward in defense of used games.

probably because the "used game debate" has to do with whether or not it's good for the video game industry. So the effect it has on Mother Nature is irrelevant to the debate.

You don't care at all? At all? That's the saddest thing I've ever heard, only a few steps below not caring about genocide.

There is a clear lack of logic in that statement.

I know that, and you know that, but I figured that someone would bring it up anyway. I find it surprising that it hasn't.

I sure hope that's sarcasm. I've been hearing about global warming my whole life, and I've yet to see anything come of it. It's like Santa Claus or the boogey man.

Holy crap, a used game debate and an environmental debate all rolled into one? Why not add religion and politics to the mix?

New question - Should Obama not allow Muslims to buy new games unless they pay a tax to support net neutrality because new games are bad for the environment?

I think "it's good for the environment because we don't need to produce boxes and discs" is rarely brought up in defense of buying used games because it works better for Digital Distribution.

A used games market only lessens the need to produce, but digital distribution removes the need for boxes and discs.

That's actually a really good point BoringSupreez. Based on what's been said already though the odds of this being a logical discussion are slim to none so I'm probably gonna sit this one out... for now.

There has been a mostly slow and steady temperature increase. Now, saying humans cause it is dubious. The temps and environment have natural cycles. But there is financial and political gain to be had from it, so it has been made to be a huge issue. It has almost become like a religion thing now. You can't discuss or dispute it without someone irrationally yelling at you like above when it was compared to genocide...
