Ok I am an EMU guy I don't bother going after the real thing unless I have some nostalgia for it. But I like to play games with original controllers and I heard that Saturn had the best damn controller.
I thought I would buy one with USB hookup, I wonder if I should get the real thing with a usb-port from Retro Zone or should I get something like this:

what do you think? I don't like cheap repro stuff, but if its built well its ok

That's a low qual reproduction.
You want the official Sega Saturn USB controller manufactured by SLS. Look for a grey controller with a Sega Logo on the USB port and a SLS sticker on the back.

Re: Choosing a retro controller
I have one of the cheap repros. For the $7 I paid (i think) it's not terrible, but I really don't like the action of the shoulder buttons. As a result it doesn't really get used that much. It's just a spare portable pad for emergencies. I use my old trusty microsoft sidewinder 99% of the time (god I love that thing). It has the same button layout as a saturn pad but is so much more comfortable to hold.

The Official Sega Saturn USB pad is the controller plugged into my PC right now. It's the only controller I use for my emulators.
Some guy on youtube shot a video about the Sega Saturn USB pad.

Older. Not wiser.
Re: Choosing a retro controller
Hey this gives me the perfect opportunity to mention these PC controllers that I found at Goodwill a couple of weeks ago:

Unfortunately they're for older computers so I can't use them unless I can find a 15 to whatever pin adapter (and they all seem to be more than I want to spend) but I thought they were pretty awesome because they look just like a model 1 saturn controller. But the d-pad is more like the one on the Genesis controller, which is probably a good thing. Hopefully some day I can put it to use. It would definitely make emulating much more enjoyable for me since I hate having to use a mouse and keyboard for games.

Re: Choosing a retro controller
I was pretty sad to see that gamepad support via the ol' gameport was no longer included in Win7. However, I was able to put an old soundblaster in my desktop and use some custom/hacked drivers and software that added gameport functionality back to Win7. Sure I could have gotten some sort of gameport->usb adapter but I have like 3 old soundblasters laying around lol.harper wrote:I can't use them unless I can find a 15 to whatever pin adapter (and they all seem to be more than I want to spend) but I thought they were pretty awesome because they look just like a model 1 saturn controller.
