Weird Saturn problem (Hopefully not the chip)

Post by Adderall »

After a chip installation the saturn works fine and has played a few backups.

After about 1 day of working correctly the problems have started:

1. The date/time screen does not show the selection orb.
2. When the Saturn logo comes up, it looks like you only see the background or something. The foreground (part that says "saturn") does not show.
3. Games don't work on it anymore (burned or otherwise).

This can't be the chips fault, can it??? Has anyone else seen this behavior???

I moved it...

try removing the chip... see if the problem continues.

The issues don't really sound like the chip is causing it, but possibly something that occured while installing it. But remove the chip anyways to rule out the possibility of it being the chip.

ALSO, what method did you install it with, and what model do you have? I'm gonna assume Model 2, but is it the 32pin or 64pin (the chip on the CD-ROM that you solder too if NOT using the A+B method. is it rectangular or square)

pictures would also be very helpful if you have a camera laying about.

I've installed 10+ chips in saturns in both 32 and 64 pin model 2's.. This one is a standard model 2 32pin. I used the AB method by soldering a bridge between the two points instead of using the wire. Always seems to work fine. I tested it 4 or 5 times running regular games and backed up games. It just pooped out after that. I really have a hard time believing that it's the chip. It can still play backups sometimes for 3 or 4 minutes, then it freezes up. I guess that's crappy cause that means the Saturn is probably messed up and the chip will have to come out.

:(

I was just hoping someone had seen this issue before and *fingers crossed* had a solution.

PS. thanks for moving the post.
