it works, but has no remote. not that it matters cause it's just a dvd player with a single yellow video out.
I'm interested in swapping out the guts for blu ray...or maybe other mods. any ideas ?
not sure if or when I'll do anything with it but still I thought I'd ask for ideas and get some opinions on where to start if I just wanted to do the blu ray swap...a usb port on the side of his head would be cool too.
pretty sweet! if i had it im not sure id want to mod it. sounds pretty rare and valuable (only 3500 made).
Atari 2600 Jr., NES, Gameboy, Genesis 1 and 2, Saturn, Virtual Boy, Gameboy Advance (with Supercard SD), Playstation (With Goldfinger), Nintendo 64, Playstation 2(modded), Nintendo DS (Fat) with Edge
there's one on ebay now, same seller as I got mine from. I got a better deal but mine had no original box instructions remote etc. just the power brick.
I'm on the fence with modding it. I know it's rare and all. I guess I wish it was decent for playing a DVD, but with just the composite connection it put out a pritty crap image. and without a remote...no DVD navagation.
so it's reduced to just being a (pritty cool) skull with glowing eyes.
even though it's rare, you must admit it's got some cool potential for modding. I mean if you could stuff a PS3 in there ?
I wouldn't be open to anything that would change it visually, except for USB slots on the side of the head...somethig like that.
How much did you pay and are you selling?
It is Ultra Geeky Cool like the Ninja Turtle DVD player I bought a while back. I'm leaning against advising not to mod it either since the skull is soooo different. Can you imagine displaying this at a Car Show with an LCD hooked up?
Maybe a basic mod for an SVideo connection? I doubt the DVD PCB has capabilities for 480p Component. You can always stuff a game console in a Halloween skull.
he had one up a couple months ago, it was mint with all packaging etc. I really didn't want a mint one cause modding it would be even less an option if you paid top dollar. but I really wanted to get one of these things so I put a $700 snipe on it and lost. I was more relieved to keep my money than bummed that I lost.
so I contacted him via ebay and asked about a busted or otherwise not functional one. after some emails I ended up with this. the seller was a good guy with me and honestly out of respect to his request I can't say what I paid. but I did get a deal that makes it easier for me to think about modding it.
You could stuff an Arduino set in there and get all sorts of game emulation going. Use the existing DVD reader to read various kinds of games.
I'd otherwise suggest stuffing a Sega CD system in there (tough considering it's actually two systems it might be impossible to do it without completely destroying them) and playing Terminator on it.
But emulating is easier and much smaller.
Not sure if it'd really be possible to get a BluRay in there ... are there even bluray players that use pop top design? (If not, you'd have to do A LOT of work either software wise, or physically modifying the shell)
