Post by dreamcast4ever83 »

Alright well i need help guys I recently got jojo's bizzare adventure for dreamcast which is an great capcom fighter. fairly unknown to most and maby not as popular as marvel vs. capcom but its a fantastic fighter with crazy moves and great 2d sprites.

Anyways i can not get it to boot vga on my hdtv I tried to do the trick where i turn it on wait for it to boot then swich it to vga on my box but then it just get tiny half the screen so can't trick the game.

I noticed that it say vga cord which i have other game that say that but work fine on the vga box but this game is picky lol so that being said since im not gonna but a vga cord is there anyway to play it in vga mode? I tried to download a game but still did the same thing. Is there a copy out there with a patch perhaps? not a huge deal but i would really like to play it on my lcd in full vga mode if i can help it if not ill just play it on my crt

any help would be great thanks

Yep. There is a guide to Dreamcast games and VGA compatability on the main page of Racketboy. If you do a search for it, or use the drop down menus on the right, you should be able to find it.

Also remember to look on the back of the DC case (if you have it) and where it has all that information about # of players, VMU blocks, etc. it will always have "VGA Compatible" if that particular game is.

As an aside, I was actually disappointed at the DC port of Jojo. I actually got to play the actual arcade and that's why I bought in the first place. But the magazine advertisements and even the in game documentation mentioned minigames and all these extra modes, and aside from the extra characters in Bizarre Adventure mode, they don't even have much of backstories as the original characters did.

Great games. The first on ps1 and the sequel on the DC. The ps1 version has loads of minigames (even a shmup) The DC not so many variation as minigames go.
I never understand why this game gets so little rep.
The artwork is a bit goofy, but underneath is a pretty cool fighter.
Optimizing PS2 games 480p (progressive) and 240p gsm hdtv

Well that's the problem with regards to Jojo on DC. It's perhaps the only U.S. game where the box art actually indicates the game to be VGA compatible when its actually not (the opposite is usually the case with respects to Dreamcast games where the box art does not reference VGA compatibility but said games end up being VGA friendly).

I've always taken such advice with a grain of salt as a large portion of VGA enabled games on Dreamcast are usually not advertised to be.

This statement is a bit confusing... If you actually played the CPSIII arcade port first, how could you be disappointed in the DC version? Its not only a Perfect Port but you also get 2 actual games (Jojo's Venture and its update!). I would understand if such a statement was said if perhaps you purchased the PS1 version after playing the arcade version. Don't get me wrong, i have both ports and i got love for the PS translation but those additional extras were necessary due to the ports shortcomings and sacrifices to the main game.

Perhaps the only way to play Jojo on VGA is to purchase the "Matching Service" version of the game that was released in Japan, Although keep in mind, most of the Capcom's Matching Service catalog of games are a bit expensive...

I had the opportunity to do the CPS 3 and for as narrow as a release it actually had, I was more than happy to do that. But when I saw all the ads saying tons of extra features and all that, I was hoping to see that on the DC. But it appears the PS1 port had all that? Or perhaps the Matching Service version? It's a *perfect* port, yes, but Capcom in the past has jam packed all their DC fighting ports with extra stuff (SFA3, MvC, Project Justice, SNK v C) and all we get is like here. 2 games, nothing special. I stick to the first game cuz that's where I have the most fun out of it.

Jam packed!? Aside from Alpha3, MvC, Project Justice and SNK v C (assuming you mean CvS) had really nothing that reflects "jam packed extra stuff" especially when you are talking with respects to PS1 Jojo extra content.

CvS, yes.

Ok well I mean extra *modes*. Heck, even Power Stone and Tech Romancer had a bunch of unlockable features. I know CPS 3 games are huge (heck, the CHDs for MAME are ginormous) but they could have done a bit more. Still love the game/series! I need to investigate what the PS1 had, but the ads for the DC game said all that good stuff was coming to that port too!

Tech Romancer perhaps but I can't say the same about Powerstone (PS book only had a few weapons, unlockable bosses and VM mini games that were required to play to access BGM and Ending gallery). It really hurt me that I was missing a practice mode. Anywho, Trust me, PS1 mini games for JBA were forgettable after a few games. When I buy a fighting game I buy them for what they provide, fighting! Mini games can be fun for a bit yes but they aren't reason I buy and play fighting games. My first game was in fact the PS1 port! I was suprised by the amount of content put into the game which was nice, but at the same time, the obvious shortcomings to the main product (animation cuts, effects removed, zoom effet removed, sight color degrade, LOADING) were too hard to ignore especially after playing it in the arcade. Fastforward about a year later and am treated to a near perfect translation on Dreamcast with no major downgrades and to my surprise, 2 seperate titles in one package (don't recall ads mentioning this). To me, Jojo's on DC is as equally awseome as having SFIII Double Impact... arcade perfect ports that are only available in such a form on the dreamcast (sans emulation). Lol! Now that I think about it, if capcom ported Warzard on the DC, it would have every CPSIII game under its belt :D
