Hello,
I wanted to see everyone's opinion on this. I noticed that most if not all gamers have a general hate towards FMV in games. I know there are ones that completely suck like that Sega CD one, I forgot its name, its the one with the babysitter I think.
Any how, I personally love to see FMV in games. I always thought it gives it that extra realistic touch. I am not sure about only FMV games but when they mix it with graphics I tend to favor it. I recall Red Alert did such a thing and there was a Need For Speed on GC that did the same thing. When I played RE1 on gamecube I noticed they took out the FMV scene and made a CG one instead. I couldn't believe people hated that so much that they took it out. It was always classical to me and that opening FMV scene is tied to my brain with the RE series.
Any way, whats your opinion on this?

Re: FMV Love
I love FMV games. I'm not sure why. I like serious attempts like Gabriel Knight 2, as well as the cheesier ones like Night Trap (that's the babysitter game you're thinking of ).
This reminds me, I need to resurrect my fmv disasterpiece theater thread.

Re: FMV Love
You really, really should check out Gabriel Knight 2! It costs only $5.99 at GOG.com and is the bets example of FMV IMHO. I also really liked the FMV in Wing Commander 3 & 4.
Re: FMV Love
I want to clarify something , and that is I am not only talking about full FMV games. even the ones that would mix between both.
Its about the only thing that survives (at least for me) from 16-bit generation up until now, to be impressive. FMV was impressive to me in '93 , and it still impresses me and gives me the realism effect today.
@J T
yes its night trap hahaha

I love FMV games as well. I think they just get a bad rap because there are a lot of FMV games that were bad simply because they were shoddy products (Plumbers Don't Wear Ties, for example), and those are the ones people remember when they think of FMV games. They rarely bring up the good ones like Star Wars Rebel Assault on the PSX.
As for the resident evil on the GC that had no FMVs, if it's RE4, I believe the game wasn't meant to have FMVs in the first place, since the engine was good enough to render cutscenes in real time without looking like crap (and that the GC had limited space on the disc, so FMV cutscenes were not feasible even if they wanted to use them).
The PS2 port just used FMVs out of developer laziness, and the PC port was ported straight from the PS2 one, which meant FMVs instead of cutscenes.

Everyone needs to watch this video Justin McElroy did. He is a collector of FMV games and did a hilarious commentary over the opening of Fahrenheit for the Sega CD.
