Hayashida shed some light on his personal history with the Mario franchise, as well as the making of Super Mario 3D Land. So what is Hayashida's secret to keeping the magic of Mario alive, even some 25 years after the franchise first debuted? During 3D Land's development, Hayashida gave the game to his 6-year-old son, who had never touched a video game before in his life. Although he admits it was quite difficult to remain quiet, he decided not to offer any advice or input, and to just let his son discover the game all for himself.
