Dreamcast help please!

Post by jrod1986 »

Hey all,

I just got my Dreamcast in today--powered on and everything just fine. However, I'm stuck at the system clock setup screen. When I try to adjust it with the controller stick or plus pad nothing changes. I've double checked the connections of the controller to the Dreamcast and even tried the second controller--same result. Anyway, any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

So basically the controller doesn't work at all?
Do you have more than one controller to try?
Have you tried plugging it into each port?

I've two controllers and I've tried all the ports with each--no luck. I just googled my problem and it seems there's quite a few posts about "blown controller ports" on the Dreamcast. Scary!

That's true, but I've never personally experienced it.
I'm not aware if it usually happens to all four at once, or just one at a time.
I always assumed it's usually just one port blowing at a time.

Where did you get this Dreamcast?

I got it off of Ebay. Seller had 200 + positive 99% feedback and for $25 it seemed like a pretty good deal. Supposedly from the description everything was in good working condition. Blah. I guess I'll open up the Dreamcast later today and see if the ports are really the issue.

It's extremely common.

You dont actually need the resistor, but it may help in the long term. Many people confirmed that you can just bridge the gap as a temp solution.

And the clock screen indicates that your dc just needs to charge to battery. When you fix the controller port, just play or leave the system on for a few hours every month to keep it charged.

And if you end up needing a new battery, I have them in the store (same ones that are used in the VMUs)
