(were)wolves on PS1 or 2?

Post by werewolf »

Hi, I'm new at this forum as I just recently started to get into gaming a little bit. I say a little bit, because I just got myself a PS2 and am probably never going to spend lots of money on a single game (I'd rather wait until they're 'old' and than snatch them up for little money).

Anyway, my main focus within gaming (as within collecting movies and books) is (were)wolves. Anything with them in, I try to get my hands on. I also enjoy other games, of course, but the collecting part focuses on these creatures. Hence my question: are there any PS1 or PS2 games featuring wolves or werewolves that I should be looking for?

So far, I've collected the following (European titles, as I live in Sweden):
- Altered Beast
- Arc: Twilight of the Spirits
- Bloody Roar
- Bloody Roar 2
- Bloody Roar 3
- Bloody Roar 4
- Darkstalkers 1 - The Night Warriors
- Darkstalkers 3
- Haunting Ground (yeah, it's a German shepherd, but those are cool too  )
- McFarlane's Evil Prophecy
- Okami
- Rampage - Total Destruction
- Sega Mega Drive Collection (because of the inclusion of Altered Beast)
- Sheep, Dog 'N' Wolf
- Underworld: The Eternal War
- Van Helsing

I'm also keeping an eye out for Castlevania: Symphony of the Night (I'm aware that it's not gonna come cheap :( )

Any recommendations are welcome!

Nightmare Creatures has werewolves as enemies. I'm not sure about its sequel.

Thankx for the tips! I think Nightmare Creatures won't be too hard to track down (for a reasonable price), but Silverload seems near impossible to get... If any of you out there have a PAL-version (yeah, I'm demanding :D ) they wanna part with, please let me know! Wonder if it was ever even released in Europe?

And the search continues...

Resident Evil 4 has wolf/zombie type enemies. They're not frequent but they're in a couple parts of the game.

I had forgotten about the zombie-dog/wolf creatures in RE4. I have that game and enjoy it quite a lot, though I'm nowhere near finished yet. Thanks for the reminder.

Bummed about Silverload, though... Maybe I should get me a US PS2 too! I can already hear my girlfriend asking why I need two of those...

If you have a PS3 or XBox 360 I recomend you get Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection. It has more games, and also includes the arcade version of Altered Beast.

Also, from what I've heard, PS1 ports of 2D fighting games are terrible. You should probably get the Darkstalkers games on the Saturn, or the Darkstalkers collection if you can play Japanese PS2 games.
Insert clever quote here.

Thanks for the tip. As it happens, the original arcade version of Altered Beast is also on the Sega Mega Drive Collection for the PS2, but as an unlockable. It'll take some time before I unlock that, I assume :?

I was looking at the Vampire collection on PS2 and would love to get it, but alas my PS2 is unmodded and thus only plays PAL-games. Is there a simple way to mod the PS2 so I'd be able to play japanese games and american PS1 games? Then I could get both Silverload and Vampire Collection and that would be awesome! My TV accepts NTSC, so there's no problem there.

If you have a PSP you could possibly go for the Darkstalkers Chronicle release instead. It's gotten a little rarer recently (and thus pricier), but PSP games are region free (AFAIK, both the PS3 and PSP have the capability for games to be region locked, but few/none actually are). Plus it's probably cheaper than a copy of the collection either way.

Most of the games I thought of offhand aren't PS1/PS2. Blazblue has a werewolf character, Valkenhayn that is DLC for Continuum Shift, or included in the portable CS2 releases or Extend.

The Killer Instinct series also has a werewolf character (Sabrewulf).

Gabriel Knight II: The Beast Within is based around werewolves. Chances are if you're posting here on a PC you can run it

Morrowind, once you have the Bloodmoon expansion, includes the possibility of becoming a werewolf. Oblivion only has mods for it, but it's once again built in for Skyrim.
