Saturn Model HST-0014 Help!

Post by outlaw_moon »

Hello fellow retro game lovers. I have been a frequent guest to this wonderful site and let me just say that I am grateful of the community here. Now that that is out of the way I would like to get some help if possible.

I have a JPN Saturn model HST-0014 [white console] that I've had since 2003 with no problems whatsoever. 2 days ago I FINALLY got me a copy of Radiant Silvergun and was excited to play it. I had a dead battery in the Saturn for years so I decided to replace it that way I can record my scores while playing RS. So i replace the memory battery and put the disc in close the lid and power comes on but nothing, just dead silence. I had never had this issue before so I thought maybe the 4MB cart is messing with it so I take it out and power it back on but nothing. Then thought maybe the memory battery is messing it up so I pop that out and power it on again and still nothing the console is dead silent.

So I googled my issue and didnt seem to find any answers. I really hope it is nothing serious, I'm bad with electronics and oh, not to mention, I have a copy of RS sitting on my desk begging me to play it :/

Any help would be appreciated.

Have you tried recalibrating the lazer?
Also dont forget to check that your power cords is still functional.

Hmmm... not sure how to do that but I have read you shouldn't mess with the laser if the motors are not running. I think my issue is the motors cus the power light comes on so I know it is not the power cord. The laser doesn't move back and forth like it should.

Do you hear the disc drive move when you power it on (lid closed)?

Check the av connection or try using another cable.

There is no sound whatsoever, no motor no laser no disc spin. I see the power light come on so there is power just nothing moves. Even with bad AV cable the motor should run either way

I had a similar issue with my US Saturn a few weeks ago. I thought it was dead, which was sad, since I've had it since 1996. After taking it apart and putting it back together to no avail, I took the battery out, powered it on, and it worked. I put the battery back in, and now it's working fine. Maybe that will work for you too.

Edit: I see you tried the battery. So I guess that didn't work. :?

Ya Duane, I have tried it all man nothing has helped.

So I opened it up and played around with the laser cleaning it and moving it. Checked all the wires and contacts and everything seems to be clean and connected. I have been keeping it in great shape over the years there were barely any dust to clean up but I gave a nice wipe down just in case, but still nothing :x

I'm afraid it is dead cus tried everything ive read online and watched on utube. Guess will post me a LTB thread in the market and see if anyone has one. Thanks everyone for your inputs.

...or you could just swap the laser assembly from a US model 2. Should fix it...
