Question about my CIB copy of Mega Man for NES

Post by Gamerforlife »

I've heard there were two different versions of the game, indicated by something on the box. I'm having trouble finding info on this. I'm curious as to which one I have. Basically, I'm asking how do you identify an early print run from a later one I guess

If you mean versions of the actual game program itself, no, there was only one version.

There were seal of quality variants. One with the original round seal of quality and one with the later oval seal. The former also had a "variant" where there was a huge "special offer" sticker on the front.

I'm not sure if there were ever different versions of the manual. Probably not, other than the above mentioned seal of quality change. Every game I have come across had a matching update to the manual for the seal of quality, although it appears a new part number was never given just for this.

There is also the "5 screw" variant of the cart, which appears to be very rare.

I'll never forget when I finally tracked down a copy of Mega Man for NES at Game Stop and I go home to play it, pop it my NES, and Skate or Die 2 comes on! :x I can't even explain all the different emotions that came as soon as that happened. It wasn't a CIB but it did have the instructions and slip case so I was pretty pissed regardless.
I am addicted to video games, especially retro gaming from my era. I have: NES, SNES, Nintendo 64, Gamecube, Gameboy, GBA, Wii, Sega Genesis, Sega CD, Dreamcast, PS1, PS2, Xbox, and Xbox 360. I have probably over 1,000 games in total for all these systems combined. Yes, I need help and I wouldn't have it any other way! This is my passion and hey my wife still loves me!!

Interesting, I didn't know there were that many variations. Looks like the box mine is in is an oval seal, no special offer sticker. I'm going to have to see how many screws are on the cart

I'm kind of curious too. Looks like yet another Gamestop horror story

That's like the biggest Rickroll ever. Hope you at least got a refund and held on to the manual.

Who would've thought, right? I mean it had the artwork on the cart and there was no sign of any tampering w/ the sticker of the art work as far as I could tell. What kills me is they had it behind the counter locked in a glass case with other rare titles too. I ended up getting a full refund and of course they didn't believe me when explained this to them. Idk if they test games at all though in general but they popped it into a NES and there it was. I ended up getting a copy on ebay eventually. No manual though and I should have kept the manual that I originally had w/ that bogus copy I bought from GS. :(
