Good Fighting Games on Gamecube?

Post by 3DSStrider »

Can anyone tell me if there are any good Gamecube fighters. I kind of want an arcade stick to play SC2 and TvC (so it needs to be Wii compatible) with, but I don't want to use it on only two games. I also want it to be compatible with Virtual Console in case I ever get some Neo-Geo games.

I don't think I'll play most of those, but thanks for the SNK Vs. Capcom reccomendation. I also want reccomendations for good, Wii compatible arcade sticks.

There's only one good arcade stick for Wii.

There's also a couple great shmups you can use it with: Ikaruga, Chaos Field, Radio Allergy. And I imagine it would work well with Pac-man Vs. Sevin pretty much covered all the fighting games, though. There was that one Castlevania game, but I've only heard bad things about it.

Edit: Looks like Guilty Gear XX Accent Core got a Wii release.

In confused because the header reads GCN but i see Wii arcade stick recomendations as well as TVC game. Anywho Hori has an arcade stick for the wii that's as solid as the TVC stick by MCZ. In regards to Wii fighters SNK released a few fighting compilations on the console like SamSho anthology and KOF orochi.
If you have another system that has a port of CVS2, then avoid the GCN version as much as possible. Easily the worst port available for home consoles.

All of the ports are nearly 100% identical, the only difference in the Gamecube version is the presence of the GCism system for specials and supers (which can be ignored anyway).

yeah iirc the only thing genuinely bad about the GC version is how ill-fitted the controller is for that game.

Wrong! Not every port is 100%. The only versions deemed as close to its arcade counterpart is the Dreamcast version of course followed by the first release version on PS2. The Xbox version retained the EO mechanic of the GCN version but also had online play via XBL. Both Xbox and GCN (and later PS2 re-release in japan) removed the kara roll technique that is used in tournaments. But right down to it the GCN version sucks as a translation. It's got the worst graphics (all the colors overall seem washed out and character sprites are even more jaggy) and has the longest loading times of any version by marginal amount. I have every version so I am positive the GCN version is noticably inferior over the rest.

...character sprites honestly looked a lot more jaggy to me in the ps2 version.

I also never did find the load times in the gamecube version to be worth complaining about. Even if they are longer, it's not like the game really had long load times to begin with. You make it sound like it's like the psx port of Chrono Trigger.

Perhaps the sprites are as jaggy as the PS2 version but the overall color of the game looks washed out and bland. The loading is apperant though when you are used to non existen loading found on the other versions and it def does become an issue considering the game goes through multiple loading segments for every round (and there are plentgy of rounds during 3 on 3 matchups). It's an deplorable port considering the hardware. I'm in no way chalking this up to the console, just a bad translation by the devs. But the game is far from 100% identicle to its competitors version lol!
