That's a pretty loaded topic when talking about Madden versions. Are you looking for a head to head comparison?

I put this piece together which breaks down every NFL Blitz incarnation:

Thanks for the link. With Madden it really doesn't matter. Just versions that stand out.

Generally the best version of Madden for a particular generation is the last one that the "main team" worked on before shifting their resources to the up and coming console. So, for example, Madden 95/96 is much better on the Genesis than Madden 97/98 was, Madden 2000 or 2001 is the best for the PS1, Madden 2006/2007 is the best for PS2/GCN/Xboxetc. Those iterations usually perfect several years of learning how to push the system and are the most important/best selling Madden for that year. ..

^ Spot on

Madden '97 and '98 were pretty much just roster updates on top of the work that had been put in for Madden '96.

I liked NFL Blitz 2001 for the Dreamcast if only for the code that allowed you to play as certain Infinity Broacasting-owned radio station DJ teams at the time:

In the Sega Dreamcast version there are 9 secret teams: You access all secret teams by hitting up-right-down-left on the directional pad when you are on the select a team screen. The teams are made up of radio station on-air staffs and 1200 Squad members. The following teams are in the game: K-Rock (NY) KROQ (LA) WHFS (DC) Y100 (Philly) Live -105 (San Francisco) KMEL (San Francisco) WBCN (Boston) KNDD The End (Seattle) Cornerstone 1200 Squad (assorted DJs including Tigger, Scrap, Pete Rock, Green Lantern)

It works -- played as the K-Rock team!

I listened to Y100 all the time (it has since changed musical genres). That is awesome EE.

I've always considered this:

Madden is a video game for people who like football.

Blitz is a video game for people who like sports games.

I really don't like football (as I sit here in a hockey jersey), but damned if I don't have a lot of fun with Blitz games. Likewise NHL games and Hitz games (of which I wish they'd make another!).
