Possible To Mod Saturn Controller to Work on Genesis?

Post by darthmunky »

Just wondering if this is even possible. I'd like to mod Saturn model 2 controllers to work on my Genesis. If so, anyone know where I can get it done/where there's a guide to do it myself?

If it was possible at all you'd have to open up a Genesis 6 button and see if you can match the connections to what is going on inside the Saturn. But since the Saturn uses a different connector and has extra buttons, I doubt it.

I don't see why you couldn't use a 6 button Genesis controller to find out, it has the same button layout (besides the shoulder buttons on the Saturn controller). Try splicing the two. Now I'm curious.

(and as I hit "sumbit" KDub said that ^ haha)

But in the case of making me genesis controller work for master system games (on the powerbase converter) all I had to do was cut the wire to the excess button and voila. So maybe the extra buttons would be a problem but as long as you don't connect them to anything then there shouldn't be any reason why they'd hurt anything.

edit: assuming the procedure would work in the first place.

Yeah, but it's DIY jobby with a project box

Not sure why you'd want to do this as the Genesis 6-button controller's fantastic. The Saturn controller is certainly cooler looking though. :)
