The official RB "is this game import-friendly?" thread

Post by noiseredux »

Another idea I had for a centralized thread for a rather common question. Sure we all know that most shmups and fighters are import-friendly, as text is generally not an issue. But there are other games that we might be surprised about. For instance, bruno clued me in to the fact that the Asian release of Red Seeds Profile (Deadly Premonition) on PS3 has all of its dialogue in English. Though the menus aren't, it's still quite easy to navigate and play this game in English.

So with that in mind, I figured how about a thread for inquring about games you might want to import?

it depends what you mean by "friendly"...

do you mean can be played with no special hardware modification?
do you mean can be played with the use of a cart/game genie/add on?
do you mean can be played with little to no knowledge of a foreign language?
do you mean a game is easy to acquire?

do you mean all of these?

import-friendly (at least the way I've always heard the term) has referred to "can I play it if I only know English?"

I have a feeling I'll be posting a lot here (assuming a lot of people ask questions).

did you play the JPN version of Michigan Report From Hell, bruno? I know there's a PAL version, but it's less far less common.

I've heard that many non-RPG (shooters, side scrollers, etc) games for the PC Engine/CD contain mostly English text on the title/continue screens. Am I wrong about this? I give presentations about Japanese video games at my workplace so I'm pretty curious.

Is Sin and Punishment on N64 playable for an English speaker?

That I have not. Would be best to YouTube it and see what it looks like.

I was wondering that too actually.

Yes, Very much so. The menus are in Japanese but all the dialogue is in English. Alittle trial and error on the menu screen, and about 5 minutes for region modding your system (NTSC-U and NSTC-J only - PAL requires a converter) and you are in business.
