Connecting a Famicom into an Australian TV

Post by BRIK »

Hey all.
I was wondering if someone could please help me because after extensive research, I can't seem to find a straight answer. I simply just want to hook up my Famicom into my tv, but I'm kind of stuck as to where to start.
First off, I should mention that my tv is NTSC, so hopefully the whole PAL region thing won't be a problem.
The RF switch I got with it had these weird prong things on it instead of a coax connection:

Apparently they are for old tv's, and from what I've read I could just use any Nintendo one that has a coaxial input (ones for the N64, Gamecube etc). What I'm wondering is if it will be okay to use one I've bought in Australia, or do I have to get one from America or even Japan? Does it make a difference?
Also is there anything else I should know when tuning this thing? Thanks.

Since your TV supports NTSC you should have no problem with the Famicom. The RF cable is just two wires, either Coaxial or the Bayonet style you have pictured does the same thing. You could just get a RCA to Coaxial adaptor and not have to mess around with a Nintendo RF switch. No region specific type needed, just one that fits.

RCA Cable from Famicom RF output to a Coaxial adaptor.

If you plug the Famicom directly into an Australian mains outlet without a step down converter in between you will fry the famicom.

Some reading.

Thanks for the replies guys. By the way I'm already using a step down transformer for my Super Famicom so power is no problem.
