Sega genesis model 3 question

Post by mas »

Has anyone noticed that the genesis model 3 is getting to be more expensive than any other sega genesis model? Isn't this model the worst to get because no 32x/cd attachment and the sound i heard was awful. Is this true?

Yep. It's the worst. But I don't think it's as common as the other models.

relevant sidebar: My best find of an abbreviated flea market season was a Genesis 3 without any cables or controllers. Paid $5 for it (have plenty of cables and controllers). I'd love to get the box eventually.

That's a load of baloney. It's not awful, it's just mono. In fact, it's one of the more cleaner sounding models (including both VA1 and VA2 model 3s) of the Genesis available. There's a very simple mod that can be done to get stereo. It's certain model 2's (with exception to the later motherboard revisions) and the last mobo revision of the model 1 (VA7) that has terrible sound quality. Read this thread: http://www.sega-16.com/forum/showthread ... m-bad-ones. Scroll down to the section covering the model 3.
What a maneuver!

One good thing about the model 3 is that you can play import games in it without modifying the slot as long as it isn't one of the later games with a region lock. Of course it is handy for people with a lack of space too.

Whoa, I didn't know this. So a EA Hockey from 1991 (PAL) would play on this?

Hmm, let me revise that... you can play import Japanese games that aren't region locked. I have no PAL games so I don't know there. Sorry for the potential misinformation there. Anyone else know?

I ended up getting a Japanese Zero Wing and that's the only PAL game I can think of I'd even bother to try myself.

Along with the plug 'n play Japanese import support & relative rarity, it's also very tiny which is a nice feature for someone with a dozen other connected consoles wrestling for shelf space. :)

Though I think it should lose some points for incompatibility with the CD add-on (and modding needed for 32x). Otherwise it's pretty cool.

I have been doing some research on the model 3 and I may just have to find a lot on ebay or find a store that has no idea that these are getting more expensive. I also like the way it looks. I have the feeling that I'm probally going to get the small versions of all my systems. Nes, snes, genesis. Too bad tg16 don't have a small version.
