Hi everyone,
I am really getting into the retro scene this year and I want to pick up some neo geo games for either the genesis or the snes. I only remember a little of what came out but is there a list or a comparison sheet on the snk games that were ported over to the genesis/snes.
If anyone can give me a few pointers on what games are out there and which versions are better, that would be great. Thanks soo much for all the feedback lately on my other post guy's. This year I am going to just buy and collect 16 bit and nothing else.

These lists might be good to start with: http://www.neogeokult.com/articles/list ... neo-geo-1/
I wouldn't be able to compare the games to their originals very well, but Sega-16 has good reviews for most of the Genesis ports. Hardcore Gaming 101 has excellent write-ups and screenshots for some of the games, like this one for the King of the Monsters ports:

Of course there's also checking YouTube and/or emulating to see if a conversion is good enough. The only ones I used to play were Art of Fighting, King of Monsters 2, and World Heroes (all on SNES), and at the very least I can say I had some fun with them (really helpful, I know).

They're incomplete, but I'm not sure to what extent. The only things I know that they're missing are the King of the Monsters games (1 and 2 got ported to both the SNES and Genesis) and the Samurai Spirits 2 bootleg for Genesis/Mega Drive (probably best not to count that one). There's likely other omissions.MEGA CD

Why even... I mean I know the AES is expensive, but most of these games have better, more arcade faithful ports, in compilations for PS, PS2, what have you...and given that you can find Fatal Fury Battle Archives 1 and 2 for 5-10 dollars a piece for PS2, why would you go for the inferior SNES/GEN option?

Why do any of us play any of the old games that we play?Yancakes wrote:Why even... Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

...I don't think you understand my post? I'm pointing out that there are more faithful-to-the-originals versions of these that do still posses the 16 bit charm, since they haven't actively updated the graphics on them, but would be cheaper if they were the anthologies or what have you.Flake wrote: Why do any of us play any of the old games that we play?
He wants a game collection, not debt.dsheinem wrote:just get an MVS or AES

Re: neo geo games on snes/genesis
yeah.. there are much better options to playing Neo Geo games in this day in age then to waste time and money with very badly done SNES/Genesis ports.
Re: neo geo games on snes/genesis
Since you are going 16-bit and want 16-bit Neo Geo ports, here are some that are better than both the SNES and Genesis ports:mas wrote:This year I am going to just buy and collect 16 bit and nothing else.
Art of Fighting. Yup, the PC Engine version destroys both the Genesis and SNES versions. The scaling in it is surprisingly well done. Here is a comparison:

Fatal Fury 2. Again, it really does blow away the SNES and Genesis ports in pretty much every way. I'm not being biased here. It is the truth. Only the Neo Geo version is better.
Fatal Fury Special. Noticing a trend? Yup, again it is noticeably better than the other 16-bit versions.
All three of these games are inexpensive, especially Fatal Fury 2. It's getting a PC Engine with CD-ROM and Arcade Card expansion that is expensive. You're looking at upwards of $200-300 for it all, depending.
$350 for an AES, and $25-50 each CIB for these games (Fatal Fury 1/2/Special, World Heroes 1/2/Jet, Samurai Shodown 1/2, Art of Fighting 1/2 and Sengoku. I'm not sure of the prices on Puzzle Bobble, Magical Drop or 2020 Super Baseball. If you go Neo Geo CD, the console is around $100 and each of these games are in the $5-25 range (not sure about those last 3 games again).Yancakes wrote:He wants a game collection, not debt.dsheinem wrote:just get an MVS or AES

That isn't peanuts, but it is hardly debt. Now, if he wants the AES version of Metal Slug... yeah, that's a dumb idea! Get the NG CD version for $50-100 instead (or MVS).
