Stunt Race FX Overclocked

Post by Drakon »

There's already a stunt race fx "overclock" mod out on the internet. I tried it....the game ran but it was going at the exact same speed....or slower. Anyway I built my own overclocked stunt race fx cart, done right.

We used a gsu 2 cart (gsu 2 has less slowdown and overclocks to higher speeds than the gsu 1 found in stunt race fx carts). Unfortunately stunt race fx requires a battery saving circuit to be playable so we converted a winter gold cart. We built our own battery saving circuit on a converted doom cart before but the circuit would drain new batteries after about 2 weeks. Winter golds are hard to find and require you to swap out the lockout chip with a ntsc lockout chip. To make matters worse superfx based carts have surface mount lockout chips that're only found in other superfx carts.

Anyway I managed to get the game running at 32 mhz and as you imagine it's a lot smoother than it was before. I would take pictures and make a comparison video but I just moved so you're going to have to wait for me to unpack my equipment.

Cool! Never liked the game as much as Star Fox, but this overlooked use of the SFX chip deserved a good overclocking. Nice job!
