I feel like most of the time i'm shooting aliens/spaceships/other enemies it's usually by myself. I have one other friend who is into shmups and will play with me.
When you do multiplayer sessions....
Do you play online or in person?
Do you play with your friends or random people(ie. xboxlive)?
Do you like the competative aspect (ie. Galaga) or Co-Op (ie. Ikaruga)
I've enjoyed Galaga 2 player while at Racketboy meets, but I don't think i've played much multiplayer shmuppage other than one of my friends who happens to also be into it.
What games do you guys like to player multiplayer?
I've enjoyed Donpachi series, Mushihime, Cho Aniki (most of our deaths resulted from laughing) and many more.

Bring your shmups! Hell, Gradius III is 2 player too!
That being said, I can definitely go for either. It's two different feels to shmupping when you're alone and when you're just kicking back with friends.

2 player can be good fun in pretty much any shmup that allows it, and some seem even better 2p (konami)
However, if I am playing something score-heavy, I usually just like to take turns, so that we can actually learn how to play for score. In something like Mushihimesama, the game feels specifically designed for 1p, and adding a second person makes survival too easy, and scoring impossible.
I think Shikigami 2 is my favorite 2p shmup. Scoring still works, the game is challenging, and you get that sweet co-op story

I'll admit, sometimes when I play Giga Wing on the DC I will control both controllers one with hands and one with feet
The cutscenes and stories change with each character combination!!!!!!

I crave multi-player games, shmups included.
2+ players, just being an option, is awesome. You could be training a n00b, tag-teaming with a buddy, or just going nose-to-nose to see who gets the most kills.

My scheduling skills have died of dysentery; I hope to visit at least on a monthly basis.
Still, don't forget to tip your waitress.

I don't think any game has ever suffered from having a 2P mode. In fact, I think most games could benefit hugely from 4P, even. I loved the N64 and Gamecube growing up, I'd always play GoldenEye and Mario Kart and whatnot with my friends, and even then there weren't enough controllers to go around.

Only when it is coop at the same time, if it is in rounds I dont do it. We have alot of fun credit feeding through titles.

None of the people I hang out with are into shmups. We usually wind up playing fighters, Mario Kart, and Saturn Bomberman when multiple people are over.

I think my problem is that I haven't seen the end of a lot of my favorite shmups. Its like a reward that I feel I should earn by at least getting there once on one credit, at which point I feel ok skipping to it to practice.fastbilly1 wrote:Only when it is coop at the same time, if it is in rounds I dont do it. I tried playing Dodonpachi with a friend on the Saturn, and due to his credit feeding I got to the last boss on one credit. It just didnt feel right.

I typically play shooters with people who are only soso at them, so if credit feeding makes them happy, more power to them. I will go for 1cc on my own if I feel up to it, but after the first couple times I did it, it lost its luster. I am perfectly happy if I 4cc a title, even if my partner has gone through 50cc (aslong as they dont bomb feed - that kills the fun for everyone).dunpeal2064 wrote:I think my problem is that I haven't seen the end of a lot of my favorite shmups.
