Anyone else tired of stupid game titles?
The game industry has taken a cue from Hollywood when it comes to game titles. Look at the latest Mortal Kombat game. It's just called Mortal Kombat. Now when you say "I'm playing Mortal Kombat" you have to specify the one on PS3 or the original Mortal Kombat. Right now they're calling Tomb Raider Tomb Raider. Again you have to specify which one you're talking about. It's the same way Hollywood call's a movie Rambo when it's the 4th movie. It's like they take the easy way out. Just number them, or are you embarrassed by how many you've made? Just a pet peeve of mine.
They have escaped into the mansion where they thought it was safe, yet.

Haha man I hate that whole "Title a sequel as if it's a remake but make it not really a remake at all" thing. I can't tell if it's better or worse when they make the title SIMILAR to the original, but not identical (like The Fast and the Furious vs Fast & Furious)jvalentine98 wrote:The game industry has taken a cue from Hollywood when it comes to game titles. Rambo's in the worst situation though I think.
First Blood
Rambo: First Blood Part II
Rambo III
Rambo
TWO movies with the title "Rambo", neither of which is actually the first movie. There's a movie called Rambo III but no movie called "Rambo II". Way to be confusing!
Re: Anyone else tired of stupid game titles?
Not to mention that it should be Rambo: Second Blood.

Clock Tower is a lesser known series, but it's a little confusing if you're not too familiar with it. In Japan there's a game called Clock Tower, but fans of the genre know about it, it can be played on your PC. Well in the States we have Clock Tower, which came out a year or two later, but it's not the same game. So Japan's Clock Tower 2 is called First Fear. Our Clock Tower 2 would be their 3rd Clock Tower game, and then we have our own Clock Tower 3. Confused? Yeah. It's another of those Final Fantasy deals

You guys been watching that AVGN chronologically confused video?
The Japanese-to-American changes don't bother me that much, they're pretty understandable to be honest. But yeah, that Mortal Kombat/Tomb Raider shit is annoying.
King's Field has the same problem.jvalentine98 wrote:Clock Tower is a lesser known series, but it's a little confusing if you're not too familiar with it. Wonder Boy
Wonder Boy in Monster Land
Wonder Boy III: The Dragon's Trap
Wonder Boy III: Monster Lair
Wonder Boy V Monster World III (aka Wonder Boy in Monster World)
Monster World IV
I think Wonder Boy is the most confusing.

Not to mention the most confusing part of all, one of the Wonder Boy games is called Adventure Island in Japan!AppleQueso wrote:Wonder Boy

We could go the Sonic/Thundercats route and name the new ones after their release year. The original Sonic is called Sonic whereas the next gen one is called Sonic 06. The original Thundercats series is just called Thundercats, but the new one is called Thundercats 2011 by fans.

Star Ocean is a victim of the Japanese/American thing. I bet when The Second Story came out some people were like "Cool, but where's the first one?" not knowing that there was a game made but it wasn't released here. Now if they had just called it Star Ocean, then there would be another naming issue eventually, lol.

Re: Anyone else tired of stupid game titles?
This shit pisses me off too. Just stick to simple names and numbers. For example, it should be:
Mortal Kombat
Mortal Kombat 2
Mortal Kombat 3
etc.
If you are ashamed by how high the numbers may get, change the title to something different and start from 1 again.
Also, no roman numerals ever. Sometimes you can't tell if they are numbers or letters. Why make it confusing like that, when we already have a perfectly good number system already?
