sonic 4 ep1 or sonic cd for xbla?

Post by ac_90 »

i personally never cared that much for sonic cd, but ive been seeing a lot of videos regarding its details & design history that seem intriguing, plus it seems theyre including both the american & japanese soundtracks in the game. it could also benefit from achievements & stuff. on the other hand, ive heard mixed reviews for sonic 4 and its 3x the price of sonic cd.

opinions?

I like them both but if you can only get one...

Sonic CD is slower paced and more of a platformer. You'll have to do some thinking.

Sonic 4 is a VERY fast game with simplistic (sometimes too simplistic) level design.

Both are a lot of fun, depending on what kind of gameplay you are after.
Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

Sonic CD easily.

Sonic 4 really floaty and while they tried to take Sonic back to his roots, Sonic Generations and Sonic Colors do a much better job of it.

Why play a game that tries to mimic the early games, if you can just play the early games.

i guess that's true; never thought of it that way. it looks like it tries to emulate a lot of elements from the classic sonic trilogy, including level themes & physics and stuff; except a lot of people complained about the latter. i also planned on picking up sonic generations next week, ive heard that does a better job either way.

not sure how much better sonic cd fairs in terms of quality though..the level design seems strange to me. ive never really given it a fair chance though.

Sonic cd by far. I'm sure you won't be disappointed either way though.

Sonic 4 is just plain broken. Play the trial. There are no physics in the game at all. You stop instantly if you let go of the direction, even on a slope. It's just horrid to play. Avoid at all costs.

I like Sonic 4, but yup... the physics are not the same as in the 16-bit Sonic games. It is a bit of a throw off.

Give Sonic CD a chance. It really is a wonderful game. It's my second favourite in the series after S3&K.

Having played both games, I wasn't overly impressed with either one. Sonic & Knuckles is still my fave 2D Sonic. However, I am downloading Sonic CD tonight simply because of how impressed I am that some hardcore Sonic fan made the effort of creating a new engine, rebuilding Sonic CD from the ground up, adding in Tails, adding 1080p support for the cutscenes, adding true widescreen support AND getting both soundtracks in the game and getting this all approved by Sega

This guy, as well as Sega, deserve to get paid. This is what you call going above and beyond, and we get all of this for only FIVE FREAKING DOLLARS!

Sonic 4 by comparison, feels completely lazy, sloppy and uninspired. It doesn't deserve anyone's money

Sonic CD, definitely. Sonic CD is a classic; Sonic 4 is a mediocre game with a weird physics engine.
