Samba de Amigo confirmed for Wii
Samba de Amigo confirmed for Wii
Looks like the latest issue of Nintendo Power has confirmed Samba de Amigo on the front cover. Story is coming from gonintendo. The game won't be developed by Sonic Team though. It is being developed by Gearbox Software; their development history includes only FPS games and one Tony Hawk port.
About time.
But someone refresh my memory as to why the Wii controllers supposedly wouldn't be able to replicate all the functionality of the maraca setup?

Because the wii remote does not have sand (or whatever they use) inside it?racketboy wrote:About time.

Actually the remote even has the speaker, so they could "emulate" the sound from the remote itself as well.
Ivo.
I thought I heard something about the Wii-mote not being able to tell how high off the ground you are holding it or something....Ivo wrote:Because the wii remote does not have sand (or whatever they use) inside it?racketboy wrote:About time.

The Wii does not truly understand its relationship to space -- not without the wii sensor bar. It can interpret certain quick motions, and knows when its being tilted/moved from its axis. From my understanding you would have limitations such as this:
Wii motes are held on high, and need to be moved down -- they wouldn't know if they were move to the the mid or lower range part.
I'm sure you could approximate some of the functionality, with the present wii-motes. But not without feeling forced and mechanical. It certainly won't mimic the, for the most part, loose play of the original.
I'll also say that the beads in the original maracas is an important element. Making the noise through the weak speaker on the wii mote won't cut it. But who knows, perhaps a new set of maraca attachments will be made which gives the wii motes a sense of distance, and adds the sand.
Time will tell whether or not the game is genuinely confirmed -- so far, a single report in some Nintendo mag doesn't sound definitive.
And, of course, don't get me wrong. The more Samba de Amigo the better. I own an original set of the Sega maracas, and a cheap knock-off pair.
Actually, it was just handed off to Future US as the publisher.aaron wrote:what if that mag happens to be published by nintendo?durkada wrote:some Nintendo mag.
