Otomedius Excellent.. Thinking of Purchasing..

I hear mixed reviews from this new version like it's a bad version of Gradius.. Can someone give me some feedback? It's only 30 bucks on amazon so I don't mind if it's just mediocre.. I would purchase the collectors edition, but I'm not sure a pillow case and soundtrack are worth it...

If the extras aren't your thing, just get the standard edition - as a pillow case hardly warrants an extra 10-20 bucks.. (The OST does, however, come within a nice little artbook.. But again, probably isn't worth the extra $$).

As for the game - it's fun! I'm an off and on shmup fan - I love the Raidens, Gradius', R-Types, 1943's... I enjoyed the hell out of Deathsmiles. Other than those I named, I'm not too familiar with the other awesome shmups I'm sure I'm missing out on..

Otomedius teeters very closely on the point of too much anime/booby fetishism.. However, the stages, character design (chesticles aside,) and enemy/core types are pretty sweet! My one HUGE complaint with the gameplay is the near unbearable slowdown in some graphic-intense sections.. I can understand with all the sprites and animation being rendered at one time, but this is 2011!! Not 1993... On an XBox 360 or a PS3, there shouldn't be any slowdown in ANY game whatsoever.. But again, it's my only real complaint. The movement is fluid enough, (be sure to grab those speedups, as you're pilot-chick drags major ass without them..) and the diverse weapon combinations are awesome!

This game is especially enjoyable if you're a longtime Konami fan, (or Gradius fan,) as there are a few nice little homages to older Konami games both infamous and obscure. And if you happen to be a Castlevania fan - bonus points for you, because this game was not only produced by Koji Igarashi, but it also has a playable Belmont character, Kokoro Belmont, added into the mix.. (although she must downloaded for $5.. freakin' DLC gouging..

) But all in all, it's a fun game for otakus, shmup fans, and anyone who enjoyed Lifeforce and Gradius on the NES.. Just don't pay more than $25-30 for it..

Awesome to hear! You won't be disappointed! Quick tip.. Be conscious of your power-ups and always try to upgrade that pea-shooter you start off every life with to something faster as soon as possible! Personally, I like to upgrade quickly to whatever shoots faster (usually lv 3 or 4 depending on the character,) and then I aim for the lv's 5 or 6 power-ups marked '?', as they will stay with you even after losing a ship..

Played it. Loved it. I rank it as my third favorite game of the year.

Had to hide it from my wife, she wants to open the pillowcase.

its about to be shmup paradise for me this christmas my parents are getting getting otomedius excellent LE, muchi muchi pork & pink sweets, dodonpachi ressurection, espgaluda 2, mushihimisama futari, and radiant silvergun for the saturn O.o and a hori real arcade pro sa vx
