Decent (inexpensive) microphone for voice overs
Any recommendations? I've been using a really cheap Logitech mike and/or using my camera simply to record audio. Neither method is ideal. I'm looking for a decent USB mike for under $50, if such a thing exists. What have you Youtube dudes been using?

I don't think it does, unless your definition of "decent" is very very flexible.BoneSnapDeez wrote: a decent USB mike for under $50, if such a thing exists.

THIS. Why not use a regular mike that plugs into the soundcard or mic jack of the computer?dsheinem wrote:I don't think it does, unless your definition of "decent" is very very flexible.BoneSnapDeez wrote: a decent USB mike for under $50, if such a thing exists.

I use this for my podcast. For $20, it's pretty clear, though it'll pick up quite a bit of background noise.

honestly you're best with just getting an SM57 and using whatever you need to interface it to your computer (a 1/4" to 1/8" adapter if nothing else).
Far outside of your price range at $100 I'm sure, but that's pretty much the cheapest you can go and have genuinely good quality.

This. And you will appreciate the quality once you actually use it, and be glad you invested some money.AppleQueso wrote:honestly you're best with just getting an SM57 and using whatever you need to interface it to your computer (a 1/4" to 1/8" adapter if nothing else).

Thanks for the recs guides. And as dumb as it sounds, I forgot computers even had a mike jack (that's why I said USB)! I don't think I've used a mike jack since the Windows 95 era. Doh.

I'd also invest in a pop filter. They're quite cheap and will give you a lot less headaches in the editing phase (depending how far you're going with this). It will get rid of all the annoying popping sounds when speaking words with B's and P's. If you don't want to buy one, get a pair of pantyhose and a cheap metal hanger. Bend the hanger into the same sort of shape as a pop filter is, then pull the pantyhose overtop. Works like a charm haha.

Hands down this is the one to get
http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B003SPVAB ... 03-7497460
It's fantastic. And for like an extra 10-15 bucks you can get a pop filter. Add in something like garage band for audio filters and you are off an running.

Re: Decent (inexpensive) microphone for voice overs
I just got my stuff at a local radio shack. Bought a unidirectional microphone (should've got the omnidirectional one though, it was only a little more) with a windscreen (or pop filter as everyone else calls it) and a stand which sits atop my desk. Quality is very clear. All three were just radio shack brand and they were inexpensive. I got the mic for $20, the stand for $5 and I think the windscreen was $3.
Btw, the mic uses the mic jack. I had to get a 1/4" to 1/8" adapter as well (also from the shack for cheap).
