Gamespot gives Skyward Sword 7.5/10

Post by BoringSupreez »

Gamespot has always had issues over the years, but ever since Gerstmanngate it's been getting ridiculous. Frequently under-rating games (example: Sonic Unleashed got a 3.5, which is lower than either Sonic '06 or Shadow the Hedgehog got.) Now they've just given Skyward Sword a 7.5. Why? Because it didn't change the core gameplay, and the sword controls weren't realistic enough for them.

Metascore is 9.4 at the moment, for comparison.

Can we at least wait until this game is actually out and we get a chance to play it before we start slamming negative reviews of it? I mean, I'm definitely looking forward to this game and can't wait to get it, but come on here.

That and as the old argument says, a 7.5 is not bad.

But considering the game reviewing scale is based on 7-10, I guess they hated it.

7.5/10 = 2.5/5

I've never understood why the arbitrary number that some editor makes up means anything to anyone. This certainly isn't even a case of "OMG! Gamespot just ruined an awesome indie developer's chances of selling their awesome game!" I mean, this is Zelda. It's going to sell a bajillion copies no matter what numbers anyone makes up.

I like the thumbs up/thumbs down scale. It's either recommended or it isn't, can't get any simpler than that and it makes the actual REVIEW a lot more important.

yeah I just like to read the review. Within, you'll usually learn things that are deemed "good" about the game, and things that are deemed "bad." It's a lot easier to know if it sounds like something that you'd want to play than just saying "oh shit, it got an 8.75? I should get that."

I don't even read reviews anymore thesedays, haven't really for years. I just watch videos, or "video reviews" on gametrailers. Gives me a much better idea of what to expect from the game.
