Using Bombs in Shmups , a sin ?

hi Shmups scene , i was wondering if using Bombs in Shmups is a no no ?

If i use them i can progress further in games but if its a sin i will keep playing without them.

In all seriousness, it depends on the game. Not all shmups leave you with 3 bombs and give you bonus points for NOT using them. I will be honest and say I can't remember which ones specifically, but I know they are out there.

The idea behind not using those screen-filling bomb explosions is that you're able to make it through without using them as a crutch.

In Mario's case, that's a sub-weapon more than anything.

I guess... I actually only use bombs on bosses when I play shmups. I actually had never heard of them being taboo or whatever. But then again, as much as I love shmups, I've never been too interested in that kind of mentality of spending months playing a single game until you can 1CC it or whatever. I just find them really fun, and OK with slowly getting better as I play them. I guess I'm more interested in just trying to beat my own high score or whatever.

Depends how you want to play it. It's not a "sin" unless you make it one.

I like them because they look pretty.

A large number of shmups penalize you for using bombs, either by destroying scoring opportunities/nerfing a score counter or locking off bosses/routes.
