Hello,
Given that I am on the other side of planet earth I wanted to know how is the 360 doing in the USA? Its almost dead here. No one any longer xbox, everyone is on ps3. the RROD didnt help especially that shipping from here will probably more expensive than just buying a new one.
Xbox used to be king of online here, and I for one thought ps3 was total fail(before BD won and the system price was like $600). But everyone now jumped ship to ps3 and I can tell you that a major reason is FREE online gameplay. I know its only $60 per year or so, but u have to keep doing it each year and then your friends have to do it too which is a hectic processes in this part of the world. I think I am the only guy i know who plays xbox, simply because i dont want to pay for a ps3.
So how is the 360 doing in the USA?

"Xbox" is pretty much synonymous with "Video Game" in the US now. I'd say it's doing really well here still.

yeah it's definitely a big dog around here. I don't own one myself. I don't like the idea of paying for online personally. And other than import shmups, there's not much exclusives I can think of I'd want for it. It definitely seems to be the FPS system of choice (as far as I can tell) what with Halo and all...
actually, I'd be interested to hear DSH's thoughts on that. I know he's a big fan of FPS games, but I know he's also said that PS3 is his favorite current gen console.

Yep, the 360 is doing really well here, consistently outselling the PS3 each month in hardware sales. If a game is a multi-platform release, the 360 version is usually more prominently placed in adverts.
The RROD issue didn't really hurt Xbox here as much as the PS3's $600 price tag at launch hurt Sony. Between the 3 year warranty and Xbox Live, people here seemed to stick with it despite it's shortfalls.

I agree price was probably a huge thing. I mean, the PS3 and 360 were certainly competing for the same market (sigh, "hardcore gamers") and when they launched at such extremely different price points, I think that certainly tipped people in a certain direction.

IIRC, the 360 is about 2 million ahead of the PS3 right now, and like 30 million behind Wii.

Worldwide, yes. Here in America, the 360 is ahead about 13 million ahead of the PS3. Sony made up most of the gap in the rest of the world.BoringSupreez wrote:IIRC, the 360 is about 2 million ahead of the PS3 right now, and like 30 million behind Wii.

That would explain why I know more people with the 360 than the PS3.lwcook wrote: Worldwide, yes. Here in America, the 360 is ahead about 13 million ahead of the PS3. Sony made up most of the gap in the rest of the world.

interestingly the 360 is dead in Japan. It went the way of the DC there. You can only buy one on the internet there, as no consoles are stocked in stores any longer.

Not really surprised about the 360's fate in japan. For some reason I'm imagining that Microsoft really doesn't know how to market to the japanese.
It certainly didn't fail there just because it was american, that's for sure.
