A look back at the Mega Man X soundtrack

Post by Hookshot_John »

Hey everyone - just posted up our look back at the Mega Man X soundtrack!

It included 24 songs with some thoughts on each one. Man, it's an awesome soundtrack. I'm sure not everyone will agree with my picks, but take a look and be sure to give some feedback!

Definitely in the top 10 best soundtracks for the SNES.

Easily one of my favorite games of all time, and easily one of my favorite soundtracks. It still isn't quite as timeless as the Megaman 2 stuff, but Megaman X hails from a time when Capcom no matter what they did could do no wrong and the Storm Eagle theme in particular is so much above and beyond anything that I've hear in modern games that it's got a special place in my heart. I loved the soundtracks for the other X games as well, but there's something special about the distinctive sound of Megaman X1, especially within the first few seconds of Launch Octopus, Boomer Kuwanger or Chill Penguin.

The PSP remake, Maverick Hunter X is an outstanding update of this classic game and does wonderful service to make the original soundtrack even more outstanding.

This game has possibly my favorite soundtrack ever. So many fantastic songs to choose from.

I literally get the Spark Mandrill bgm stuck in my head almost every day. That song just thrusts its balls in your face from the get go.

Also love the bgm for Launch Octopus.

Wait, Launch Octopus is in the So-So Tracks list?

Boo, hiss :P

@Satoshi_Matrix - Couldn't agree more. Even though I would probably lean to Mega Man X2 as my favorite in the series, X1 certainly has the better list of songs.

Haha, no one seems to be defending the boss theme making it into the Bad Tracks though...

love love love the MMX soundtrack to death, ever since I got that game when it was brand new.

Fans should totally check out Cezar Batistão's videos on youtube. He covers a ton of them and I think he's really good.

I like the boss theme too, but I really like Launch Octopus.

Still, a fantastic write-up. It would not have been as interesting if every song was in the "badass" category, so I think you judged em fairly.

Great article! Opinions of course are going to differ form person to person. Man, I loved the Boss Theme, so I disagree there. I also really, really loved Chill Penguin's theme. I thought it fit the ice stage perfectly. You don't want too much intensity for that stage. Actually, come to think of it, you and I disagree about the whole "mediocre tracks" thing with the exception of Sigma lvl 2, which I agree is a bit bland compared to the rest. I'd also throw in there Boomer Kuwanga's level theme, which I don't find to be as good as the rest (too cheesy, and you nailed it comparing it to Rocky). Otherwise you're spot on. This album, this whole game, is easily one of my favorites.
Definitely in the top 10 best soundtracks for the SNES.
Absolutely. It might even grace my top 3.

Also, nitpicking here, you probably want "memorable" and not "rememberable".

I mentioned this... knew there were some people who played this on guitar!

Opening Stage and Spark Mandrill are the best music videogames have to offer.

Alright, just got home from work. Time to sit back with a beer and play through the Spark Mandrill stage until I can headbang no longer
