POLL: New games reverting back to Retro Graphics?

POLL: New games reverting back to Retro Graphics?
A new member recently joined who posts comic pages utilizing video game characters. One that stood out for me is a MegaMan Chronology. In a sense the attached pic below by tiagoruback rings true. 2017 Megaman reminds me of the Wii Bit series. Many retro style games on Cell Phones and Downloads are presented in Retro Style Graphics and sometimes in Retro Gameplay. Flash games on PCs and Macs are also presented in the larger pixels.

So why is this?
1. Maybe this is done to keep the download size small?
2. In the case of the small cell phone screen the Retro pixels are easier to see?
3. A tapping of a market of gamers rediscovering games of their youth?

The Poll
I decided to make a poll to see where everyone stands. I do like Retro games but wonder after investing in a current generation system if one is shortchanged with a simplified graphic game libary. The old argument that Retro Games have better gameplay does not mean a current gen game has to have "8 bit" graphics.

The poll is not for rereleases of an older game, but a brand new game with Retro Graphics.
Retro style gameplay can have powerful graphics of current game system capabilities, but maybe Retro graphics adds to a game? How many prefer NEW GAMES presented in Retro style graphics on a CURRENT GENERATION Gaming System?

Comments?

Thankyou tiagoruback, your comics are great!

Just like flatter cell shaded animation versus 3d realistic stuff, it is a stylistic choice and both can be the right answer.

Bingo!

Like about everything else, tastes can easily become cyclical. That said, when I was 11 looking at a new game, the first thing I judged were the graphics. The name of the game escapes me now, but there was a CONAN THE BARBARIAN style game for the genesis made by EA that was just slow and awful, but my friends and I still said "But WOW! Look at the graphics!".

I chose option 2 since there wasn't a "little of both" type option.

Personally, I like 2D graphics, I like the cel-shaded look of things, all that. However, that doesn't mean I necessarily want games done in exactly the style that an SNES would have done. On occasion? Sure. But it makes more sense for things like portables.

What I think systems now can do is make older-style games closer to how we thought they looked back in the day. Take advantage of the modern console, at least to a point. Realistically, the "best" modern consoles can do would likely utilizing 3D graphics features n' all, and for some games I would like to see sprites. Just, sprites in glorious 1080p, with a lossless digital audio score, and so on.

It's an artistic choice.

Also, the 2000 Mega Man in your graphic is a different Mega Man, I believe.

Curt Vendel is producing a new 7800 compatible console. So we'll have a current gen console that does nothing but retro graphics.

With games of a certain graphical style you have a certain notion of how the physics will work, as well as the overall tone of the story. So I think you pick the graphics that make the most sense for the overall kind of game you're trying to produce.

I selected no. Boo to 2017's proposed graphical quality! I like retro graphics, but not 2600 level! I'm fine with 16-bit, but early 8-bit is butt-ugly. I'd like to see some games with retro graphics, but I'd rather stick with what we have now than go to 2600 again.

I just want games that have an interesting and likable aesthetic. This can be achieved with both retro and current-gen graphical fidelity, but it less likely seen in the latter because of the game industry's push for realism.
