How does a PS2-->DC controller adapter map the buttons?

Post by noiseredux »

Since I'm having such a bitch of a time getting hold of a Ascii pad, I'm considering nabbing a PS2/DC controller adapter. The question is, how are the buttons mapped? I want to make sure a PS2 fightpad will work well. Thanks!

TOTAL CONTROL

Dreamcast ... PS1/PS2
Y ................. Triangle
X ................. Square
B ................. Circle
A ................. X
DPad ........... DPad
Triggers ...... R1-L1
Start ............ Start

It follows the same button layout. I use a PS1 BLAZE TWIN SHOCK with the Dreamcast with two Total Control adaptors. Some come with a VMU socket for the game saves.

are you positive that it's R1 and R2? If so that kind of sucks and won't help me:

Oops, I meant R1 and L1
The dead buttons would be SELECT, L2, R2, L3, R3 and Right Analog on a regular Dual Shock.

ok, you're sure for sure then? Cuz if it's R1, L1 then that will certainly help me out. I'd hate to buy one for nothing.

I bought one of them for myself because I have always used Chun-Li since SF2 came out. She was always my go-to in any Capcom game really -- and still is unless Morrigan is an option. So when I needed a PS2 fight pad, it seemed obvious to get one with the character I always use.

The same week I bought one my wife decided to buy me the same exact fight pad as a gift. I'm pretty sure she picked that one out cuz she figured I'd like the crotch shot.

Sorry about Delay, took some pics
Yes, It was just a mistype earlier. However this is weird, I verified checking DC Street Fighter III Third Strike and DC Street Fighter Alpha 3 with a TOTAL CONTROL PLUS which has a slide switch for PSX Driving, PSX Dreamcast Controller Layout and a PSX Arcade Stick. The R1 and R2 buttons are active and the L1 and L2 buttons are dead when I set the switch to Arcade stick! The good news is when the switch is set to the Dreamcast Controller Layout, the R1 and L1 button works.

Tested on the BLAZE TWIN SHOCK
I also tested my other two types adaptors, one is a regular TOTAL CONTROL which has no VMU port and the other made by INNOVATION which has a VMU port at the plug and works with Sega Saturn, PSX controllers and a PC PS/2 Keyboard. Both the regular Total Control and Innovation only has a driving wheel and regular controller option.

The INNOVATION makes L1-R1 as one trigger and L2-R2 as the other trigger on a PSX controller. So it won't work on you GamePad unless your Triggers are L2 and R2.

Stick with either TOTAL CONTROL
The Total Control Plus is the one to get anyways for the three modes and a VMU Slot. I think the 9 Volt port is for the PSX Dual Shock Motor, never used it.

For future reference, I added this info to the Twinstick Guide
