Are there any atari jaguar players out there?
Are there any atari jaguar players out there?
Im sorry to say I have never played a jaguar. Have you? Tell me what you liked and didnt like. What system would you compare it to?
Does it hurt? Its not my fault
I owned a atari jaguar and cd system. i purchased it last year. i was so sick of it i sold it all to fund my psp just a few months ago.
I personally dont recomend it, there are some exclusives but your gonna stash alot of money. It is possible to play backups on a jag cd without a mod chip but there are only 2 or 3 ok games for the jag cd.
The system really did have potential, but most games only utilized its 16 bit chip which was really supposed to be a chip to instruct the other chips. cheating but this is what happed with lazy developers (not their fault, didnt have enough resources to learn their code and other politics)
there are some very nice games however.
Protector SE (2002 release!, my favorite blows defender 2000 out of the water)
Skyhammer (1999 release) pushes jaguar to its limits)
Tempest 2000 (its ok, just a little repetitive)
Iron Soldier 2 (CD)
AVP (little overated, but mabye great for its time, gives me a headache cause of the framerate)
Burnout (amazing frame rate for its time)
NBA Jam
Raiden
Total Carnage (2006 release!)
Defender 2000
Battlesphere (never played it but its the Holy Grail of the Atari Jaguar.
The system itself looks like crap, but with the CD add on, i thought it was the nicest looking system in my collection. It was a bad ass looking machine.
If i was everybody i would avoid this unless you have money to blow and laugh it off. you can always do what i did and just re-sell it.
this past year the prices have inflated so be careful, its only gonna go up.
They are still working on new atari jaguar games at www.songbird-productions.com
I would rather have a sega cd, or a 3DO than a jaguar any day.

great hardware, poor games
Hey, I do have a Atari Jaguar. Bought it from a friend a couple of years ago, three games were included (Cybermorph, Tempest 2000, Alien vs. Predator). I paid only about 30 Euro, he must have payed about 400, I guess.
I love the design of the Atari Jaguar. Very stylish. There is also a lot of original accessory available. Unfortunately, the games are very poor. Okay, Rayman was given birth on the Jaguar, but that's nothing compared to the mass of great games that were first released on the 3DO. On the other side, looking on checkered flag today, I think it looks really good, especially compared to virtua racing, which was the state of the art of that time. There has been much discussion about the Doom and Wolfenstein versions for Jaguar, they must be quite good.
Nevertheless, I intend to increase my Jaguar collection, I'd like to have a CD unit and more games.

Re: Are there any atari jaguar players out there?
Yeah, I was fortunate enough to get a Jaguar lot from a Craigslist seller yesterday. Everything was $40 total.
Here's the swag:
Jaguar system (loose) with 2 controllers, switchbox and power cord
Alien vs. Predator (complete)
Cybermorph with instruction booklet and overlay
Flashback (complete)
NBA Jam (complete)
Raiden (complete)
I did pretty darned good since the guy was originally asking $45. It always pays to haggle.
Has anyone else here found a Jag lately?

Currently playing: Fallout 3 and Namco Museum: Virtual Arcade (both 360)
Re: Are there any atari jaguar players out there?
I bought a Jaguar a year ago on eBay for around $30 shipped. It came with 2 controllers, Zool 2 and Cybermorph. Both games are ass. I picked up Iron Soldier and Club Drive complete but I never played them. I picked up Alien Vs. Predator (cart only) and really enjoyed it. Most of the games are complete ass and aren't worth the high eBay prices they get. I didn't feel like having my Jag hooked up to my TV just to play AvP every now and then so it spent most of it's time in my closet.
I did take it out a few days ago to play AvP but it decided to set itself on fire. After I plugged in the AC adapter, the power blinked on and off for 30 seconds and then the disgusting smell of burning metal/chips hit me. Well, there goes my Jag.
Unless I can find a composite cable for cheap, then I really have no interest in this console. RF quality is absolutely horrible but composite cables go for an absurd $15-20!!!

I own a Jaguar and the CD system. I bought them both way back in the day when the sytem had potential. There really isnt a very large library of games for the system. The few games i own that i enjoy
Doom
Battlesphere Gold
AVP
Wolfenstein 3d
Battlemorph
Iron Soldier 1 and 2
Tempest 2000
Mostly everything sux! LOL
But it is a bit of a cult classic system.

Re: Are there any atari jaguar players out there?
My wife and I got one back in April as a "joke", we bid a dollar over a really low price on Ebay, and actually won it.
Since then its been a money pit.
It didn't come with a controller, so we had to get a controller, and a composite cable, and we got Tempest 2000. (Which we both *love*)
Our main reason for getting it was for the famous homebrew scene.
So we got a BJL set-up using Protector SE from Songbird.
The same day we received it we found out that BJL won't even play a lot of the homebrew games because there just isn't enough memory in the Jag.
If you find it on Craig's list or at a garage sale for cheap I would say its worth it, otherwise, we have had so much more fun with our 3DO, and other "unusual"/"failed" consoles that I'd pass on the Jaguar.
