Does Sega actually know what they're doing anymore?
Does Sega actually know what they're doing anymore?
This isn't really related to Sonic. This is more about the general Sega publisher brand. It seems like they don't actually know what the hell they're doing. They seem to give developers some money to make a game but provide no other support. I have the latest example in my hands right now: Aliens Infestation. It's a DS Metroidvania using the Aliens license. The only reason I was aware of it was a preview done on 1up. I can't recall seeing any advertising online. And the manual? The only thing that isn't boilerplate is the controls list. You have the various warnings, then the control list, then the credits. And this isn't the first time they've completely mismanaged a release. Valkyria Chronicles 2 got no support and now we probably won't see the third. 7th Dragon has a pedigree that would get a fair number of people to buy it but they haven't bothered to bring it over. About the only time I'm aware Sega is releasing a game is when it's a Sonic game.

I saw a preview too, didn't know it was out - how is it? I am a big fan of the Aliens IP, generally...MrPopo wrote:I have the latest example in my hands right now: Aliens Infestation. It's a DS Metroidvania using the Aliens license.

There was plenty of buzz about Alpha Protocol, but that was mediocre. Sega kinda fails at advertising their good non-Sonic stuff.MrPopo wrote:About the only time I'm aware Sega is releasing a game is when it's a Sonic game.

I think you're onto something Popo.
Also I have to tag along and say I'm curious to hear what the Aliens game is like too... oh and that I had no idea it was out now, lol.
The Sega published Platinum Games seem to get some kind of hype though, but mostly only around the internet I guess and then they just kind of crawl out of nowhere when the release date hits as well. Vanquish is probably a good example, it was definitely a sleeper hit. Bayonetta probably lucked out a tad because of the sex appeal. But yeah, Sega's publicity is pretty much nonexistent.
