The larger one in this picture (on the right) is how the cable looks like:

My office monitor (a flat screen monitor) has 2 inputs. The traditional RGB (?) one with 3 horizontal rows (I've seen these connections in all my PCs etc), and a different one which has a symbol that I presume stands for digital (it is a square wave pulse finishing in an arrow, something like:
. __
-- -->
(that didn't come out properly)
inside a rounded box.
The input itself has a horizontal narrow slot to one side, and a grid of sockets in 3 horizontal rows (so all female), with total 8 columns. I also have a cable that probably serves to connect any output of this sort to the monitor, all male, but it only has pins on the horizontal narrow slot, and on 3x3 squares with a gap of 2 columns in the middle with nothing (the cable is male on both sides).
Can you tell me what connection this is? HDMI? It is strange that the cable is equal on both sides.
Ivo.
What monitor connection is this?
The top part of the picture is DVI
The Bottom is HDMI

That's the type of cable I use on my PC to hook it to my TV ( DVI from the vid card to HDMI on the TV). What are you trying to do with it ? You won't find any computer monitors that run HDMI so if you plan to use it on a monitor it won't be of any use to you.
HDMI and DVI handle video in the same way ,however DVI only carries digital video (also analogue video) and HDMI carries both digital video and digital audio.
If you're using it on your office comp use a DVI to DVI cable (provided your monitor has a DVI in and your comp has a DVI out) that way you will have a digital signal being fed into your monitor which will look cleaner than VGA ( the 15 pin cable) because VGA is analogue.
oh dear I'm starting to ramble
Sorry if none of this makes sense. I hope it's of some help.

The only way to deactivate the ray beam and fight back the vampire alien threat is with a complicated series of foot patterns on the device's control board that looks remarkably like a DDR pad. We will all praise this man for saving our lives and buy him a mountain of stuffed animals.

Its DVI then
So I take it that modern PC vid cards have DVI outputs, and using the DVI to DVI cable would be superior. (Note: the cable picture is NOT the one I have here, I have one with both ends the same).
Monitors with DVI inputs always bring DVI to DVI cables, I guess, otherwise I wouldn't have this lying around. Currently the VGA one is being used, the Sun ray I have here only outputs DVI.
Are there any consoles outputting in DVI? The Dreamcast adaptor only sends out in VGA, right?
Ivo.

I know Xbox360 Elite (i own one, and use the digital out) and I believe the PS3 each put out DVI... well, HDMI...
hdmi and DVI are basically the same thing. All hdmi is, is a dvi cable with its shape modified, analog pins removed and audio pins added. This is why you can buy a straight DVI to HDMI cable, and not need some converter box between the two.
