We all know of that immensely popular Sega Game, Panzer Dragoon Saga. However, most of us can't play it due to the high price tag. Which leads me to my questions:
1. With a Walkthrough/Guide, is the Japanese Version easy to play?
2. Why exactly is the Japanese Version cheaper than the US Version?
3. How do it's RPG Elements work? Do you level up like in most RPGs? Or perhaps buy equipment to get stronger? Something else?

Re: Panzer Dragoon Saga Question(s)
1. Sorry, dunno (have the US version and JP version). (Edit - I meant that having played through the US version I never needed to use a play-through guide. That and I've never played my copy of the JP version; just bought it cuz it was cheap.)
2. Because the production amount was likely significantly higher. And you can get it for less than $5 (in Japan).
3. Can't remember; last played it over 10 years ago.

Warning, the japanese version of it will NOT play on a US console, even with an action replay. I recommend doing what I did, that is, getting the PAL UK demo disc of it, which has the whole first disc of the game. Costs about $20. To get it to run on a us system, you'll need a cheat code though. Link for it is below.

Oh, and the japanese version is cheaper because japanese versions of saturn games are always cheaper, as the system and games sold better there.

Re: Panzer Dragoon Saga Question(s)
I'm playing through it at the moment. I just started disc 4. The RPG elements work a lot like every other RPG. You get experience from fighting enemies and level up which increases your stats. There are item shops too where you can buy guns.
But this isn't really the focus of the game. You're not going to spend a lot of time looking at stats. It's just kind of a mechanic that's there to facilitate telling of the story. I personally prefer RPGs with a bit more complexity, but I'm still glad to play it. It's very good for the kind of game it tries to be.
IMO, just get a mod chip.

I've tried installing a Mod Chip 4 times, and failed on every occasion. I'd rather just buy the real thing instead of dealing with that crap. Besides, CD-r's probably just wreck the console anyway.

Perhaps more interesting than the stats is the morph your dragon feature.

Re: Panzer Dragoon Saga Question(s)
I honestly haven't found a reason to use that. I just use the normal dragon and use healing wing repeatedly. The game isn't difficult enough to really require playing around with the dragon to get stronger.

Any specific reason for this? I've played other Japanese Saturn games with an action replay and had no problems.

It's just one of those games. There are 2 or 3 that don't work with the AR IIRC.

Not at all, unless you start tweaking the potentiometer to read CD-RWs.ReddMcKnight wrote:Besides, CD-r's probably just wreck the console anyway.
