Did anyone else see Larry Merchant embarrass Floyd Mayweather last night in the post fight interview.
I don't fault Mayweather for the unsportsmanlike but totally legal cheapshot victory, but jumping on Merchant for just doing his job was a new low for a fighter with a history of little class. I have to agree with Merchant that he probably went on the tirad so that he wouldn't have to answer the only question that anyone wants to ask "Why wont you just fight Manny Pacciao?"
Its the fight all fight fans want to see.
I don't know what Mayweather's problem is, without that fight he will be a hall of famer, but he will always have an asterisk next to his carear, something Manny wont have.
Still, have to love how Merchant, who is 80, stood up a a man a third his age trying to intimidate him. Only thing better would have been if he popped him with the mic and told him to "protect yourself at all times"
Larry Merchant is THE MAN
Re: Larry Merchant is THE MAN
Merchant usually bothers the shit out of me, but it was great to see him stand up to Mayweather like that. Mayweather did take an illegal headbutt, but he knew that he won that fight with a sucker punch. No honor in winning that way.

i guess ortiz won't try to hug someone 3 or 4 times now. a tap on the gloves will do.

I also get the impression that he was going to have trouble knocking Ortiz out any other way. Mayweather has had very few knockouts since he moved up in weight a few years ago. I can't imagine how he could have lost the fight if it had gone the distance, but he took the past of least resistance.
Re: Larry Merchant is THE MAN
Mayweather is an ass, the Ref was horrible, Merchant is disrespectful sometimes, but the bottom line is Ortiz is an idiot for trying to hug someone in the middle of a fight after he shot a T.Hawk like flying headbutt at him. In a fight with a personality like Floyd, do you think he is going to do the honorable thing...come on DUMMY. Mayweather was well on his way to destroying Victor and I believe he would have taken him out by the 10th round. Floyd deserves the hate and in this case....WAR MERCHANT!!!!

Those words should never be near each other.
It was a sucker punch, but I can't blame the Mayweather. He's a heel, he's a great boxer, but he has the brain the size of a peanut, and if you're not a fan of him, rest well as his manager will die rich, while Mayweather, well...I doubt the guy will die broke and lonely, and in that order as he won't be able to afford any more "friends".

Re: Larry Merchant is THE MAN
The best way to win a boxing match is to do everything possible within the rules to win. Headbutting is against the rules so he definitely shouldn't do that. Sucker punches are perfectly acceptable, right? No shame in winning that way. There is also no shame in winning by constant hugging or winning by decision.

Are you referring to the sold out bout of Danny Tanner vs. Mr. Rogers? Those fuckers hugged it out like no two imaginable characters could have ever hugged it out.
Shit was hugging fantastic.

Nah. I don't watch that much boxing. I have seen a lot of hugging before and while I do think it's boring, I understand that it's a legitimate strategy.
