Just got a Game Gear and three games in the mail. Tested the three games and ONLY the sound worked, no picture. In a rage, I began searching for the seller's return address and a box so I could pack up the busted handheld and ship it back to the mofo who had the cojones to sell me busted goods.
Then I found the contrast knob........
Anyway, any recommendations? So far I have Ax Battler, Magic Knight Rayearth 2, and Ecco the Dolphin.

Tails' Adventure was my favorite.
Other good games are Fantasy Zone, Sonic, Sonic 2, Sonic Chaos, Sonic Triple Trouble, and Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine. Because Sonic is awesome and those Game Gear titles are different from the Genesis ones.
You can also get an adapter which lets you play Sega Master System games.

Re: GAME GEARing like a boss
hehehe. I'm still amazed by the amount of people thrown off by that little contrast wheel. Anyways, Dynamite Headdy and Ristar made scaled down appearances on the Game Gear but they're still pretty good.
Older. Not wiser.

Does your sound still not work?
Eventually all the capacitors need to be replaced, but most GG enthusiasts know that.
Yeah, I sometimes find auctions for "broken" Game Gears that are actually in working order.
Of course, I make it a point to replace the caps anyways.
So games:
Definitely get Shinobi II: The Silent Fury
Best damn action game on the system, IMO.
If you like Strategy, Shining Force is good fun (and surprisingly affordable).
If you import (from Europe markets) or get a Master Gear, definitely pick up Wonder Boy (III) The Dragon's Trap. It's one of the best 8-bit action-RPG-type games out there.
and there's also a great selection of Puzzle games on the system: Bust-a-Move, BakuBaku, and Mean Bean Machine, to name a few.

Actually my first game gear I got for free because of the contrast wheel. I was going to give the dude $20 for a gg sega case and some games but in the noon sunlight neither the seller nor I could get the contrast right. We thought it was broken so he just gave it to me. A couple days later I played with the contrast inside and it worked perfectly(even the sound).

Aleste II and Gunstar Heroes.

As if, those 2 are plenty supply.
There's a single BIN for Gunstar Heroes right now at around $35 shipped.
...and I have given up the prospect of EVER getting Power Strike II with the price it commands, and that's assuming you can even find an auction for it.
**Sighs**
I do wish I had them though.
I guess Wonder Boy: the Dragon's Trap isn't all that common either.
But I was at least able to get mine for under $15 shipped. So I figure it's in the average Joe Gamer range.

So what? They're two of the best games the system has to offer and are worth hunting down.
Re: GAME GEARing like a boss
Those games are well worth playing, no doubt.
Worth tracking down? I have to disagree. I just don't think the going prices are worth it, especially when there are plenty of other more accessible games to recommend.
If someone is looking for game recs, I think you should at least warn someone if they are extremely rare or expensive... or are import only's.
And since you didn't, I did... in a mildly sarcastic and irksome post.
But maybe I'm just being an SOB here.
I think I'm a bit irritable right now.
